また、口語で 次のような意味でも使われます。

The police leave after she says she knows nothing.
She is the last person to have seen Clara Nash before

(She believes that Clara had it coming because she treated
her husband badly.
After the police leave, Lottie is then invited over to the
house of neighbor Mrs. Armstedder.
There, Lottie blabs that Clara was having an affair with
a man named DeMario. )

実の処、Lottie は 旦那に のぼせ上っているの
だった。
Lottie は Clara のことを うるさいほどクソミソに
貶(けな)した。
（Lottie then says Nash's husband was interested in her.
In reality, she is infatuated with the man.
Lottie's so vocal in her disapproval of Clara.）
「Lottie の 妄想は 留まる処を知らぬほどに
暴走し始めた。
Lottie は 旦那に 恋文を書き始めた。
Clara が死んだ あの晩、旦那さんが 家にいた

と言って 旦那を 喜ばせようとしていた。
だが、Lottie の望みは 成就することがなかった。

絞めたのだ..............」
(Lottie's imagination begins to run wild. She begins to write
a love letter to Nash's husband.
She hopes to please him by keeping his secret from the
police — that he was at home the night that Clara died.
But her hope never finishes as he appears and strangles
her instead of kissing.)
