まことしやかに語り伝えられてきた「常識」の
中には ウソも あるようです。
ちょっと 覗いてみましょう。

「(1) 雄牛は赤色を嫌う ：
雄牛は色盲である。 実は、闘牛士の衣服の動き
を脅威に感じているだけである。
(2) 死後も人間の毛髪と爪は伸び続ける ：
事実ではない。 ただ、皮膚が縮んで後退するので
あたかも 毛髪や爪が伸びたかのように見えるのだ。
(3) ヒキガエルに触れるとイボができる ：
ヒトのイボは ヒトからしか うつらない。
ヒキガエルの体にある イボにみえる瘤は 皮膚腺
にすぎない。
(4) SOS は ”我が船 遭難したり、救助を乞う” の
略語である ：
SOS には何の意味もない。 "SOS” はモールス信号
で "ﾄﾝ"が３回、"ﾂｰ" が３回、"ﾄﾝ"が３回と、発信する
のが簡単なので、遭難救助の要請暗号になったわけで
ある。
(5) アダム と イヴ は リンゴを食べた ：
ふたりは 禁じられている知恵の木になる "実" を食べた
というのだが、創世記の どこにも その“実”がリンゴで
あったという記述はない。
(6) セレブは ３人続けて亡くなる ：
ﾆｭｰﾖｰｸ･ﾀｲﾑｽﾞの資料によれば、1990年以降 セレブは
449人 亡くなっているが、5日間の内に3人続けて亡く
なったのは たったの７件だけであった、と いう。
(7) 睡眠中に 人は 年に８匹のクモを呑み込んでいる ：
夜中に這い回っているクモは ベッドには入り込んでは
こない。 というのは ベッドには エサとなるものがいない
からである。 おそらく 皆さんは 年に一度もクモを呑み
込んだことはないでしょう。」
(1) Bulls Hate Red ：
Bulls are colour-blind. They actually perceive the motions of
the bullfighter’s cloth as a threat.
(２) Your Hair and Nails Keep Growing After Death ：
Wrong—but your skin tissue does recede, making them appear
longer.
(3) Toads Cause Warts ：
Humans can catch warts only from other humans. Those bumps
on toads are just their skin glands.
(4) SOS = "Save Our Ship" ：
It doesn’t stand for anything. SOS became a Morse code distress
signal because it’s so easy to transmit: three dots, three dashes,
three dots.
(5) Adam and Eve Ate an Apple ：
They ate the forbidden “fruit” of the tree of knowledge—nowhere
in Genesis does it say it was an apple.
(6) Celebrities Die in Threes ：
Of 449 celebs who have died since 1990, only in seven cases did
three die in the same five-day period, according to data from the
New York Times.
(7) Sleepers Swallow Eight Spiders Per Year ：
Spiders usually don’t crawl into beds during nighttime wanderings
because they offer no prey. You probably swallow zero spiders per
year.
