"destroy" は "construct" の反対語で, 「破壊する」という
のが原義ですが、
「(文書を) 破棄する」
「(証拠を) 隠滅する」
という意味でも よく使われます。
徹底的に無くする、というニュアンスが よく伝わってきますね。 あの森〇事件の文書・証拠のように..........
例えば、「物的証拠の隠滅」 は "destruction of physical evidence" といいます。
夫殺しの物的証拠である凶器を 妻は とても うまく”隠滅” しました..........

殺人に子羊肉 !!?? (ネタバレ ？ )
ちょっと覗いてみることにいたしましょう。
「妊娠中の主婦 Mary Maloney は 愛情深い妻であり
ひときわ優れた やりくり上手の妻なのだが、警察署長
である夫が 愛人と一緒に暮らしたいので別れてくれ、
と言ったのを聞いて、カチンカチンに凍った子羊肉の脚
で打ちすえて 殺してしまった。
Mary は 現場で取っ組み合いの争いがあったかのよう
な跡を残し、子羊肉の脚は オーブンに入れて料理した。
彼女は警察署に電話を入れ、自分自身は 夫が殺された
時間には 買い物で外出中だった、という話をしてアリバイ
を主張した。
警察が捜査のために やって来たのだが、殺人に使われた
凶器を発見できないでいた。
事件の捜査には 長くてキツイ時間が かかることを知って
いる Mary は 捜査主任と部下の警官たちを ちょっとした
食事に誘った。
Mary は お食事に 子羊肉の脚のお料理を出した...........」
(Pregnant housewife Mary Maloney, a devoted wife and an exceptional
housekeeper, bludgeons her husband, the police chief, to death with a
frozen leg of lamb when he says that he wants a divorce, going to leave
her for another woman.
Mary sets the scene to look like a struggle and puts the leg of lamb in
the oven to cook.
She calls the police and provides an alibi for herself with the story that
she'd been out to the store when the murder took place.
When the police arrive to investigate, they are unable to find the murder
weapon.
Knowing of the long and hard hours spent looking into the case, Mary invites
the officer and his men for a bite to eat.
Mary gives them the cooked leg of lamb to eat for supper................)
