既婚妻から依頼を受けて 彼女たちの DV夫 を
300人以上も殺した "女仕事人" がいたそうです。
身の毛もよだつ話ですが、勇気を奮って ちょっと
覗いてみることにいたしましょう。
「マダム・ポポヴァ (年齢不詳) は ロシアで 殺し屋業
をしていた女で、報酬を貰って 無慈悲で残酷な夫たち
を殺し その妻たちを解放してやる、という仕事だけを
請け負っていた。
毒薬を使ったり、自身の手を染めたり、銃器を使ったり、
或いは 別の殺し屋を雇ったりして仕事をこなしていた。
小銭稼ぎということもあるが 同情の気持から 仕事を
請け負った この 多くの人を殺した毒殺屋 マダム・
ポポヴァ は 婦人解放が世間一般に認められるように
なるずっと前から 婦人解放擁護者であったのだ。
暴力を振るう夫に自由を奪われている農家の妻たち
の塗炭の苦しみ を 聞き及んだ マダム・ポポヴァ は
非常に 心を痛め、お金が あまり かからない 必殺
治療法を 自ら買って出たのである。」
(Madame Popova (age unknown) operated a murder-for-hire service in
Russia that specialized in liberating married women from cruel husbands
for a fee.
She murdered over 300 victims, by using poison, her own hands, a weapon,
or hiring an assassin.
A prolific poisoner who undertook her work as much from sympathy as
for the minor fees she charged, Madame Popova was an advocate of
women's liberation long before the cause was recognized.
She was so distressed by the travail of peasant wives held "captive" by
their brutish husbands that she volunteered an inexpensive, lethal remedy. )
「1909年3月とうとう捕まるまでの 30年間、彼女は
少額のお金を貰って さっさと請け負った仕事をこなし、
こうして 近所の女たちを相手に 小回りのきく殺し屋
を続けていたのである。
ところが、夫を始末して貰ったことを 突然 後悔し始めた
依頼人が 警察に出頭し 事の次第を明かした。
逮捕された マダム・ポポヴァ は、 逮捕されるまでに
およそ 300人の虐げられた妻たちを解放した、と 警察
に白状した。
収監中、彼女は ”暴力を振るう夫どもから 可哀想な妻
たちを解放するという すばらしい 仕事をしてきたわ" と
言って自慢げに話した。
”わたしは 女の人は ひとりも殺しちゃいないわ” と 彼女
は警察に 自己弁護めいたことを言った。
彼女を磔付け火炙りにしてしまおう、という群衆が現れ
たが、皇帝軍が 追っ払って 彼女の命を守った。
結局 彼女は 銃殺刑となったのだが、1909年3月に刑が
執行される際にも 一片の悔悟の念も示さなかった。」
(For thirty years before her ultimate arrest, in March 1909, she ran a small
disposal service for her female neighbors, picking up spare change and
executing her commissions with dispatch.
A client, suddenly remorseful, turned her in to the police, and Madame
Popova confessed to "liberating" some 300 wives in her career.
In custody, she boasted of the fact that she "did excellent work in freeing
unhappy wives from their tyrants."
In her own defense, Madame Popova told her captors she had never killed
a woman.
Czarist soldiers saved her from a mob that sought to burn her at the
stake, and she was unrepentant as she stood before the firing squad in
March, 1909. )
