"decoy" といえば ファッション・ブランドでも知られていますね。
"decoy" は オランダ語 "de kooi (de は定冠詞[=the]kooi 鳥籠) が英語に入ったもので、
「カモをおびき寄せて捕らえる仕掛け」
（おとり用のカモの模型など）
というのが原意で、
「おとりに使われるエサ、もの、人」
を一般的に表す英単として使われるようになりました。
気を寄せている女性に 彼女の夫が暴力をふるい 彼女をいじめるので困っている、ということを聞いた男がその夫を懲らしめてやろうとしてその夫のもとへ行くが............
ヒッチコック劇場の "Decoy" という作品です。
なにか 内容を想像できそうですが、ちょっと 覗いてみることにいたしましょう。
「Gil Larkin は Mona Cameron という既婚の歌手に密かな恋心を抱いている。
彼女が 夫に虐められて困っている、ということを彼女の口から聞いた Gil は 居ても立っても居られなくなり懲らしめてやろうと 彼女の夫の事務所へ駆け込んだ。
彼女の夫は 電話中であった。
銃を持ったひとりの男が Gil の背後から忍び寄った。
くるりと振り返った 彼女の夫は それが Ritchie という名の男であることに気付いたのだが、直後に 撃ち殺されてしまった。
Gil は 殴打されて気を失ってしまった。気が付いた時、自分は Mona の夫殺しのために ハメられたんだ、と気付いた。ハメたやつを どうあっても 見つけなければならない、と Gil は 思った。」
(Gil Larkin is secretly in love with a married singer named
Mona Cameron. Gil Larkin learns from Mona that she is
being abused by her husband. Gil goes to her husbands office
to confront him. He is on the phone.
A man with a gun enters behind Gil.
Mona's husband identifies him as a man named Ritchie before
he is shot dead. Gil is knocked unconscious, only to awaken
and learn he's being framed for the husband's murder - and
must now discover who is really behind the crime.)
「Gil の手に 銃が 握らされていた。
(彼女の夫が撃ち殺される前にしていた電話は そのままダラリとぶら下がっていたので)事務所の電話を取り上げてみると 受話器から音楽が聞こえてきた。
だが、その通話状態は 相手が電話を切ったので 途絶えた。
Gil は (殺害現場にいたので)警察の尋問を受けたが、すぐに釈放された。
釈放され、Gil は 話をするために Mona のもとへ行った。
彼女のマンションで Gil は そこにあったレコードをかけてみた。
それは 彼女の夫の事務所の受話器で聞いたのと まったく同じ音楽であった。
それに気付いた Gil は 夫殺しのために Mona が 自分をハメたことを 詰(なじ)った。
その時、 Ritchie が 忍び足で そっと Gil の背後に迫った。
が、Ritchie が 何もできぬ内に 警察がやって来て 陰謀を企てたふたりの犯人を逮捕した ー Mona と Ritchie のふたりだ。」
(The gun has been placed in his hand.
He picks up the phone, hears music on the other end.
The phone, then, hangs up.
Gil is questioned by the police, but is released.
After he is released he goes to talk to Mona.
At her apartment, he puts on a record and hears the same
music that ways playing on the phone. He accuses Mona of
arranging her hisband's murder.
Ritchie sneaks in behing Gil, but before he can do anything
the police arrive and arrest the conspirators, Mona and Ritchie)
