On May 11th,
I visited Otani Sobyo and Higashi Hongan-ji, where part of my father’s ashes are kept, on the anniversary of his death.
Otani Sobyo is located next to Yasaka Shrine and is a peaceful place where Shinran Shonin, the founder of Jodo Shinshu Buddhism, rests.
Higashi Hongan-ji is one of the largest wooden temples in Kyoto, and anyone can freely enter and pray inside.
Jodo Shinshu temples often have unique and unusual features, such as the 120-meter-tall Ushiku Daibutsu in Ibaraki or Shoganji Temple, which has a planetarium.
Higashi Hongan-ji is also quite interesting.
It has “Ran-on-kun,” a character that combines Shinran and a lion, as well as cute mascot characters based on Buddhist sutra books.
It was also one of the first temples in Japan to introduce cashless donations.
Especially since Higashi Hongan-ji is close to Kyoto Station, I definitely recommend visiting if you have the chance.

オヤジの命日で分骨して納めさせて頂いている大谷祖廟と東本願寺に行ってきました
大谷祖廟は八坂神社の隣にあり、浄土真宗の宗祖、親鸞聖人が眠る静かな場所です。
東本願寺は京都最大の木造建築の寺で、誰でも中に入って参拝できます
茨城の120メートルの牛久大仏や葛飾区のプラネタリウムのある證願寺など、浄土真宗は変わったお寺が多いですが、東本願寺には親鸞とライオンを合体させたランオンくんや、お経の本をキャラクターかしたゆるキャラたちがいたり、日本初のキャッシュレス賽銭を始めたりなど、ここもかなりおもしろいです
特に東本願寺は京都駅からも近いので遊びに行ってみて下さい

Yesterday was the final day of the festival at Imamiya Shrine.
The mikoshi procession started fairly close to our guesthouse and took about three hours, crossing major roads such as Horikawa Street and Imadegawa Street as it moved through the city.
Maybe because there were not enough people to carry it, the mikoshi seemed to be carried only at the beginning, and after that it was placed on a cart and pulled along instead.
Even so, the route was quite long.
The manager of Kingyoya also joined the procession, and it looked pretty tough in the heat.
The ox was doing its best too.
Its eyes were very cute 👍
昨日は今宮神社のお祭りの最終日でした
けっこう宿の近くから始まり、３時間くらいかけて、堀川通りや今出川通りなど大きな道も超えて進むお神輿
お神輿の担ぎ手が少ないからか、担ぐのは最初だけみたいで、あとは台車に乗せて引いていくみたいですが、距離的にはけっこう長いです
金魚家の管理人も参加されてましたが、暑い中でけっこう大変ですよね
牛くんもがんばってました
目がかわいかったです（笑）

On the way walking from Nishijin to a library in Ukyo Ward, I stopped by Myoshin-ji Temple.
Myoshin-ji is one of the largest Zen temple complexes in Japan, founded about 650 years ago during the Muromachi period.
The vast grounds are filled with many small sub-temples, creating a quiet and peaceful atmosphere.
With its Zen rock gardens and historic wooden buildings, it is a place where you can truly feel traditional Japanese Zen culture.
Famous sightseeing spots in Kyoto can get very crowded on weekends, but there are still many temples and shrines where you can enjoy a slower and more peaceful side of Kyoto, even if they are not as famous as Kiyomizu-dera or Kinkaku-ji.
If you travel to Kyoto, feel free to ask me for recommendations!

西陣から右京区の図書館まで歩いて行く途中に妙心寺の敷地をまわりました
妙心寺は京都にある日本最大級の禅寺で、約650年前、室町時代に創建されました。
広い境内には多くの塔頭寺院が並び、静かで落ち着いた空気が流れています。
枯山水の庭や歴史ある建物から、日本の禅文化を感じられる場所です。
京都の観光地の土日はとても混んでいますが、清水寺や金閣寺ほど有名でなくても、人が少なくて、ゆっくり京都を感じることができるお寺や神社はたくさんあります
京都を旅行される時はぜひ聞いて下さいね

On May 5th,
I went to see the portable shrine procession at Imamiya Shrine, a tradition that has continued since the Heian period.
The sight of more than 100 people carrying a mikoshi weighing around 1.5 to 2 tons was truly impressive.
The gold leaf decorations and detailed carvings were sparkling beautifully, and I was fascinated by the elegant atmosphere that felt very much like Nishijin culture.
By chance, I ran into someone I knew, and we watched it together.
There will be another procession on the 10th, so I hope I can see it again.

平安時代から続く今宮神社のお神輿を見に行きました
1.5トン〜2トンもの重さがある神輿を、100人以上の担ぎ手たちが運ぶ姿は見ごたえあり
金箔や彫刻がキラキラしていて、西陣らしい華やかさに見惚れてしまいました。
知り合いにたまたま会い、一緒に見ました
10日にもあるので、また見れたらと思ってます

May 4
I went to the Takatsuki Jazz Street festival.
Since I heard there was a jazz music festival in Takatsuki City, located between Kyoto and Osaka and about 20 minutes from Kyoto, I decided to go without knowing much about it.
There were more than 50 venues of all sizes, including halls, elementary schools, outdoor spaces, shrines, and even restaurants around both JR and Hankyu stations.
Live performances were held over two days.
Surprisingly, admission was free, and the event is supported by donations and T-shirt sales.
After visiting several stages, I stayed for a while at what seemed to be the main venue—an elementary school.
The performances I saw were:
Tappi Iwase (Drums) Quintet → KHAMSIN → Miki Hirose Jazz Orchestra → Shinji Harada → Mari Nakamoto Trio → Chihiro Yamanaka Trio
It started raining along the way and got quite cold, but many people still gathered.
I’m not very familiar with jazz, but I love music, so I was really happy to enjoy the atmosphere of a festival again after a long time.

高槻ジャズストリートに行ってきました
京都から約20分、京都市と大阪市の間にある高槻市でジャズの音楽フェスがあるということで、何の情報もないまま、とりあえず行ってみることにしました
JRと阪急の両駅周辺のホールや小学校、または野外や神社や飲食店までまでをステージとする、何と50を超える大小様々な会場で、2日間に渡ってライブが行われてました
何と入場は無料で、募金やTシャツ販売での寄付で行われているそうです
僕もいくつかのステージをまわったあと、メイン会場になってると思われる小学校で見続けました
僕が観たステージは
岩瀬立飛（Ds）クインテット→ KHAMSIN→ Miki Hirose Jazz Orchestra→ 原田真二→ 中本マリトリオ→ 山中千尋トリオ
でした
途中、雨が降ってきて、寒くなりましたが、多くの人が詰めかけていていました
僕はJAZZは詳しくないですが、音楽は大好きなので、久々にフェス気分を味わうことができてよかったです
