今日は、ノートテイキングの際に役立つ
一般的によく使われている
英語の省略文字をご紹介致します。
英語学習中の方は、是非参考にしてみてください。
=：equal
例文：Sally is kind.→Sally = kind.
/：per
例文：per day→/day
/：or
例文：apple or orange→apple/orange
&：and
例文：Nancy and Michael→Nancy & Michael
>：is more than
例文：Coffee A is more expensive than Coffee B。→price of Coffee A >Coffee B
<：is less than
例文：Coffee B is less expensive than Coffee C。→price of Coffee B < Coffee C
$：money
例文：The cost of living in LA is very high.→$ of living in LA = very high
↑：to go up, to increase
例文：They scored higher this time.→Their score ↑
↓：to go down, to decrease
例文：The value of the house went down.→value of the house ↓
→：leading to, heading toward
例文：Takao went to see ABC park.→Takao → ABC park.
∴：therefore, so
例文：x+3=4. Therefore, x=1.→x+3=4. ∴ x=1.
∵：because
例文：Mario cannot be pregnant. Because he's a man.→Mario cannot be pregnant. ∵ Mario=man.

i.e.：that is, in other words

例文：percent of babies born in 2011→% of babies born in 2011

例文：cost-plus pricing→cost+ pricing
他にも省略文字として
普通のスペルを短くしたものを使ったりもします。
以前に書きましたDrive Through（Drive Thru）の例もそうですし
他にもEnglishをEngと書いたり
universityをuniv.と書いたり
North WestをN.W.と書いたりすることも。
そして、
自分だけがノートを見るのであれば
自分だけが理解出来れば良い！というのが鉄則ですね。
もし、他の人もノートを見る可能性もあるのであれば
普段から「省略される場合はどういう形を取るのかな？」と
意識して、常にアンテナを張っておいてくださいね。
そして、英語モードの脳から外れない程度に
日本語（特に漢字）を上手く使い入れるのもお薦めです。
例えば、bigと書くより
「大」と書く方が速ければそれでOK。
でも、英語初級レベルだと
日本語モードの脳になると
聞き取りが怪しくなってしまう！という方もいますので
そこには気をつけてください。
特に留学を目指している方は、早いうちから
こういった省略文字に慣れておくことをお薦めします。
日本の学校の先生のように
全てを板書する先生はいませんから。
また、留学ではなくても
英会話教室でのメモを取る際や
ビジネス会議中でメモを取る際にも
こういった省略文字が役に立ちますので、
是非これから意識するようにしてみてください。
