To the annual year-ending mochi pounding at the Sadogatake Stable.

As I watch the energetic sumo wrestlers pounding mochi always makes me realize a new year is coming.

Thankfully, they always let me pound as well, but the mallet is heavier than you imagine.

Much to my surprise, I got kind of exhausted earlier than before.

One of our favorite things is to have freshly pounded mochi with soy flavored grated radish, natto, roasted soy bean flour, and sweet bean paste served right after.

Then we had huge rice balls made with mochi rice from the stable.

Above us the pic with the stable master Sadogatake and his son Kotonowaka.

This made my day!
