本日、明治座「市川猿之助奮闘歌舞伎公演」が終わりました
皆様の温かい支えにどれほど力づけられたことでしょうか
深謝申し上げます
華々しく開幕した初日には、誰がこのような寂しい終幕を予想したでしょうか
私には事件の真相は全くわかりませんが、先代から家族ぐるみでお親しくお付き合いさせていただいて来た段四郎のお兄さんとお姉さんのご冥福をただただ祈るばかりです
これほど寂しい千穐楽は、ありません
本当なら互いに「おめでとうございます」と言い合うのが常ですが、辛くて苦しい千穐楽となりました
けれど、今僕ができることは何があろうと前を向いて、ひたすら芸道に精進していくこと
どうか今後ともお引き立てのほど、何卒よろしくお願い申し上げます

I truly appreciate your warm-hearted support and applause for the production partially performed by understudies, including myself.
It’s far beyond my words to express my gratitude.
On the opening day of the production, nobody has ever imagined this tragic end.
Although I know nothing about the cruel case, the only thing which is true is that Danshiro san and his wife passed away whom we had known more than four decades, and both of our families were close…

This is the saddest finale I’ve ever known.
Originally, we say “congratulations!” to each other on finals but this was the last thing we could say.
As I think of myself, keeping on devoting myself to Kabuki whatever it may happen is the one and only thing throughout my life.
