ハワイ大学の敷地の中にはイーストウェストセンターと言う、大学とは独立した研究機関があります
アメリカと環太平洋地域のより良き関係と相互理解を促進するために設立され、ヒラリー・クリントン、アウン・サン・スーチーやオバマ元大統領もスピーチを行っている権威ある研究機関です
ここで先月より「折る」と言うことをテーマに展示が行われています
環太平洋地域の様々な国々で「折る」と言う行為がどのような文化を生み出して行ったのかと言う興味深い展示です
日本からは折り紙、手毬、扇子、移民の人たちがハワイへ入植する際に使っていた風呂敷、行李などが展示されていました
扇子の展示コーナーでは、その使い道として光栄なことに「鬼揃紅葉狩」の僕の写真が使われています
展示を見ていると様々な地域で「折る」と言う文化が発展していったことが分かり、とても興味深いイベントでした
因みにこの展示は4月16日まで行われています😉

Established to strengthen relations and understanding among the peoples and nations of the Pan Pacific countries, the East-West Center is located in the site of University of Hawaii at Manoa.
It is a completely independent institution from the UH, and authoritative enough to have Hilary Clinton, Aung San Suu Kyi, and ex President of the United States Barack Obama as speakers.
Currently, they are having an intriguing exhibition “In the Folds” to show how “folding” has developed each culture in the Pan Pacific regions.
Origami, temari, fan, furoshiki, wicker trunks used by the Japanese immigrants, and etc. are exhibited.
In order to show how fans are used, a picture of myself in “Onizoroi Momijigari” are also displayed.
Such an honor!
It is such an intriguing exhibition how the act of “folding” developed itself in various countries.
