2017年の7月のある日、娘が「鬼灯市に行ってきた」「楽屋に飾って」と鬼灯の鉢をぶら下げて帰ってきました
大学の帰りに浅草までわざわざ足を伸ばし、買ってきてくれた鬼灯が今年も小さな白い花を付けてくれました
見るたびに微笑みが浮かびます
そんな娘もついに社会人
まだ一回も通勤することも叶わず
リモートで仕事をしています💻
いつの日か大きな花
をつけ、立派な実を実らせますように

One evening in July, 2017, my daughter came home with a potted Chinese Lantern Plant.
She went to the Chinese Lantern Plant Festival in Asakusa after her school to get one for me.
“I want you to put this in your dressing room at Kabukiza!”
Since then, the plant produces tiny white flowers every early summer.
I’ve found several tiny flowers again this year.
Whenever I see them, it makes me think of her and smile.
She’s a working professional now but has never been to office yet due to the COVID-19.
