Two more days left.
How you spend New Year’s Eve depends on each family.
It was the children’s responsibility to polish ritual articles in my family.
Proud to be part of qualified adults to prepare annual family events, my sisters and I would furnish them.
Then we all go to my relative’s to pick up some dishes they had made for us.
When we went home, we enjoy watching the famous special year end TV program.
Right before 12AM, we would have soba called “Toshikoshi Soba”.
At twelve sharp, we check the coming year’s good luck direction and paste the amulet on a wall that we had had gotten at the shrine on the day of winter solstice.
Then we drunk “Fukucha” to celebrate new year and pray to our ancestors and Japanese Shinto deities.
Phew...
But this is not the end!
You roast two to three soba noodles and have the smoke go into wallets because they say with this, you can receive financial windfall.
As you see, the New Year’s Eves in my childhood were quite hectic.
Just out of curiosity, how are your new year’s eves?
