私は、どんな本でも、読む以上は、はじめからしまいまで、途中をとばさずに、その全部を読むことを理想としている。なかなか実際にはできないけれども、そうありたいと思っている。

一つのことを必ずやりとげようと思うなら、そのほかのことがだめになるのを嘆いてはならないし、他人の嘲笑をも恥ずかしいと思ってはならない。多くのことを犠牲にしなければ、一つの大きな仕事が完成するはずがない。
