さて、門をくぐると左手に「神変堂」があります。
By the way, after I passed the gate,
I came across the "Jinpen dou" on the left side.
こちらには、修験道の祖といわれる
役行者が「神変大菩薩」としてまつられています。
It's dedicated to "En no gyoujya"(Jinpen Budha),
the founder of the "Shugendou"
the Japanese mountain asceticism.
左右にいるのは、役行者の御世話をしたといわれている
善童鬼と妙童鬼。
"Zendouki" and "myoudouki", who took care of
En no gyoujya, are guarding their boss.
役行者は634年 大和国（今の奈良県）生まれ。
En no gyoujya was born in 634 in yamato no kuni ( Nara prefecture).
17歳から現在の飛鳥寺で修行し
やがて熊野や大峰の山々で山林修行に入り、
孔雀明王の呪文を習得、
病気や災難、苦痛を取り除く力を
持っていたといわれているそうです。

He began to study Buddhism at Asuka temple from 17 years old,
then he entered Mt.Kumano and Mt.Omine
to practice mountain asceticism.
It is said that he learned the magic of Kujaku Myou-ou
at that time.
So he had the power to remove illness, disaster, and pain.

案内板には「足腰の健康をお祈りしましょう」と
書いてあります。
The sign says that "Let's pray to him
for the health of your legs and hips"
私が思うに、役行者ご自身とても足腰が
丈夫な方だったのでしょう。
I think that En no gyoujya must have strong legs.
役行者は日本各地の霊山で修行なさったそうで
I heard that he practiced on the sacred mountains all over the Japan,
那智の滝や
for example, in Nachi no taki(waterfall)
熱海の伊豆山神社の境内でもまつられています。
and In Izusan Shrine, you'll find a small Shrine
which is dedicated to him.
