さて、高尾山には七不思議や天狗伝説があるそうです。
Have you ever heard of the 7 wonderes of Mt. Takao?
こちら、樹齢４５０年の「たこ杉」にも不思議伝説がありました。
A mysterious legend has been handed down
through the generation aboutthe 450 year-old "Tako Sugi".
Tako means octopus, and Sugi means cedar.
昔、水行を終えたお坊さんが、この杉の根っこが
道をふさいでいるのを見て、般若心経を唱えると
たちまち根がくるくるっとタコの足のように巻いて
道ができたという伝説があるとのこと。
A long long time ago,
a monk who had just finished a spiritual practice under a
waterfall came across the cedar.
He saw the roots of the tree blocked the passage,
and performed the "Pajna-para-mita sutra."
Suddenly the roots of the tree wound up like the legs of an octpus,
and opened the road.

「道開き」の「開運杉」ともわれているそうですよ。
I heard that the tree is called " Good luck cedar"
because it opened the road for passengers.
神秘的な空気が漂い始めるのは、浄心門のあたりから。
I began to feel a mystic atmosphere from "Jyoshinmon"(gate).
「霊気満山」と書いてありますが、その通り
神秘的なエネルギーに満ち溢れていました。
The sign says
" A mountain filled with a mystic atmosphere".
It was really true!
