“Bell” the Persian leopard in “Kushiro zoo” passed away, on 21th of last month.
先月の21日に、「釧路動物園」のペルシャヒョウの「ベル」さんが儚くなったです。
As a result, now all the zoos in Japan, the number of the Persian leopards is only 5.
これにより、現在日本の動物園では、ペルシャヒョウは５頭だけになったです。
The breakdown is:

Higashi yama zoo has 2;
東山動物園に２頭；
“Ouga” male 15 years old.
「オウガ」 ♂ 15才
“Shiratsu” female 15 years old.
「シラツ」 ♀ 15才Iwate safari park has 1;
岩手サファリパークに１頭;
“Goofy” is male and is 15 years old.
「グーフィー」 ♂ 15才Tohoku safari park has 2;
東北サファリパークに２頭；
“Chip”, “Dale”
「チップ」と「デール」
I asked their sex and age, but the leotard receptionist said “I don’t know whether I may tell you about it, so I must ask the zoo director for permission, so I’ll call you back”.
あたしは、彼らの年齢と性別を聞いたですけど、レオタード受付嬢は「それについて答えて良いかどうかわからないので、園長に許可を得てから電話します」と言ったです。
But I didn't get the call from her.
でも、電話はかかってこなかったです。Ouga and Shiratsu were moved in the back yard, due to the "Evolution plan" which is being done in Higashiyama zoo, since 6th of last month.
オウガとシラツは、現在、東山動物園でやられてる「再生プラン」の為に、先月の６日より、バックヤードに移動になったです。
Because of that, we became unable to see them.
そのため、我々は、彼らに会えなくなったです。

When I first had a conversation with Mr. A who is one of person in charge of the plan, he said the following.
あたしが初めて「再生プラン」の担当者のA氏とお話ししたとき、彼は以下の話をしてたです。
“Now we can't exhibit the Persian leopards and the Jaguars, because of the construction of the plan.
「現在、工事の為に、ペルシャヒョウとジャガーの展示ができません。
But, we are going to exhibit them, in the future.
でも、将来的には、彼らの展示をするつもりです。
We had made a plan for them, but we don’t have enough money and space for them.
その為の図面も作りましたが、十分な資金と場所がありません。
We can't build it without getting a money permit from the city hall.
市の許可を得て、予算がつかないと、建築できないです。
The next budget meeting will be held next year.
次の予算会議は、来年です。
Even if we can get the permission and we begin to build their area soon, then it takes 3 years at the earliest.”
もし、許可がおりて、すぐに着工したとしても、最短で３年かかります。」
I asked him "How much will it cost to build their areas?".
あたしは、彼に「放飼場を作るのに、いくらかかりますか?」って聞いたです。
Then he answered "I don't know."
すると彼は、「わかりません。」って言ったです。
I wondered and asked him "you made the planning, and you will try to get the permission, but don't you know the cost?".
あたしは、不思議に思って「あなたは、計画書を作って、予算の申請をしようとしているのに、その予算がいくらなのか知らないんですか?」って聞いたです。
Then, he said "we can't let you know the estimate bidding price".
すると、彼は「入札予定価格を教える事はできない。」って言ったです。
So, I said "Please let me know the general estimated price to build an area for the big cats".
なので、あたしは「一般的な、大型ネコ科動物の放飼場の価格を教えて下さい。」って言ったです。
He said “I’ll call you back to let you know”.
彼は「調べて連絡します」って言ったです。
I waited and waited, Mr. A didn’t call me.
いくら待っても、Ａ氏は電話してこなかったです。
So, I began to find the amount of the cost necessary to build the big cat's exhibit area.
あたしは、大型ネコ科動物の放飼場を作るのに必要な価格を調べ始めたです。
Some people helped me to get the information.
ある人々が、あたしに手を貸してくれたです。
I really appreciate it.

The information I got is the following.
あたしが得た情報は以下の通りです。
A cheetah-area and a serval-area in the "Africa zone" in "Tama zoological park" were built during the period of the economic bubble.
「多摩動物公園」の「アフリカゾーン」のチーターとサーバルキャット舎は、バブルの頃に建てられたです。
The cheetah-area has 2 outside areas and also has 11 back yard rooms.
チーター舎は、ふたつのお外の放飼場と11のバックヤードのお部屋があるです。
One of the outside area is very large, and we can see cheetahs are running around, in there.
お外の放飼場のひとつは、とても大きくて、チーターさん達が走り回るのを見ることができるです。
And one more area is small, but in there, we can see the cheetahs from very close place.
もひとつの放飼場は小さいですけど、すごく近くから彼らを見ることができるです。
The serval-area has 2 outside area and 6 backyard rooms.
サーバル舎は、お外のふたつの放飼場と６つのバックヤードのお部屋があるです。
And a part of the ceiling can be open, in each room.
そして、それぞれの部屋の天井の一部を開けることができるです。
Every Saturday, the "Serval jump" which is one of the events is held there.
毎週土曜日に、「サーバルジャンプ」というイベントがやられるです。
That time, a zookeeper hangs a piece of meat from their cage's ceiling.
その時、飼育員さんは、彼らの放飼場の天井から、お肉を吊るすです。
The serval cats aim to the meat and jump and catch it.
サーバルさんたちは、お肉を狙ってジャンプしてキャッチするです。
We can learn that the servals are able to jump 2 meters or more, from that event.
あたしたちは、そのイベントから、サーバルさん達が、2m以上ジャンプできることを学ぶことができるです。
When the Cheetahs’ areas and Servals’ areas put together, it is 1500 meter squares.
チーターさんの放飼場とサーバルさんの放飼場を合わせると、1500㎡です。
And the cost to build it was 200 million yen.
そして、その建設費は2億円です。
I wanted to know whether we can get the cost which can build the Jaguar’s area and the Persian leopard’s area by the fund-raising and the donations.
あたしは、募金活動や寄付で彼らの放飼場を造れるかどうか知りたかったです。
About 2 weeks later, I called Mr. A to have a conversation about the cost.
約２週間後、あたしは、A氏と、建築費について話すために電話したです。
He said the following.
彼は、次のように言ったです。
“I left a message for you, but you didn't get it, did you?
「あなたに伝言を残したのですが、受け取ってないのですね?
In fact, we didn't apply for a permit to the Jaguar's area and the Persian leopard's area.
実は、我々は、ジャガーとペルシャヒョウの放飼場の申請をしていませんでした。
Because of that, we don't know the cost.”
だから、金額もわかりません。」
I was disappointed, and couldn't say anything for a while.
あたしは、暫くの間、呆れて物が言えなかったです。
