I enjoyed Richard Corliss' Arts article on Avatar. I just wanted to add that the story and image of the movie were very much influenced by Japanese animation movies in the past decades. These include director Hayao Miyazaki's movies; flying island from Laputa: Castle in the Sky (adapted from the Gulliver's Tales); revenging natural animals from Nausicaa and Princess Mononoke; which all have green or leftish agenda. And also mobile suit! from Mobile Suit Gundam, in which young soldiers wonder why they have to fight, against apparently non-questioning enemy. I am amazed that these images were turned into this grand scale movie with great views, with or without 3D effect.

I enjoyed Richard Corliss's article on the success of Avatar. I would like to add that the story and aesthetic of the movie seemed influenced by Japanese animation movies released over the past couple of decades. These include director Hayao Miyazaki's movies such as Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind and Princess Mononoke, which have a similar leftist agenda, presenting a tableau of industrialized mankind, with all its greed, being overturned by the guardians of the natural world. I am amazed that images of this sort were expanded to such a grand scale.
