法とは、曲制、官道、主用なり。
凡そこの五者は、将は聞かざることなきも、これを知る者は勝ち、知らざるものは勝たず。
故にこれを校（くら）ぶるに計を以てして、その情を求む。曰く、主、いずれか有道なる、将、いずれか有能なる、天地いずれか得たる、法令、いずれか行われる、兵衆、いずれか強き、士卒いずれか練（なら）いたる、賞罰、いずれかあきらかなると。これを以て勝負をしる。

５つの項目とは、①道、②天、③地、④将、⑤法のこと。
①道とは、人民を統治者とが同じ気持ちになすもの。そうすることで国民は統治者を信じ、生死を国家とともにするようになる。
②天とは、日向と影、暑い寒い、そしてタイミングのことである。
③地とは、その土地が遠い近い、険しいか易いか、広いか狭いか、高いか低いかのこと。
④将とは、智才、誠信、仁慈、勇敢、威厳のこと。
⑤法とは、軍隊の編制、官職の治め方、主軍の用い方などである。
この５事柄について知らない将軍はいないが、これをきちんと理解し実践できる者は勝ち、実践できない者は勝てない。
であるから、これらを比べ推し量り、その実情を把握する。
すなわち、
１、どちらの君主が人心を得ているか？
２、将軍はどちらが優秀か？
３、天候、気候条件、立地条件、タイミングはどちらに部があるか？
４、法令、規律はどちらがしっかり守られているか？
５、軍隊はどちらが強いか？
６、一人一人の兵卒はどちらがよく鍛えられているか？
７、賞罰はどちらが明確か？
この７項目を比較することでたたかう前に勝つか負けるかを判断するのである。

②The heaven is light and shadow, hot and cold, and the timing.
③Ground is distance(far or near), steep or flat, wide or narrow, high or low?
④ Intelligence, honesty, benevolence, bravery, and dignity of general.
⑤The law is a formation of military forces, hows to govern the government post, and how to use a main army.
Al though there is no general who doesn't know these five matters, the person who can practice it win and the person who cannot practice it dose not.
Then, by compared and measured the following question, the situation is understood correctly.
That is,
1.Which monarch is obtaining men's minds?
2.Which general is better?
3.For which the weather, the climatic condition, conditions of location, and timing are benefitting?
4.Which is firmly defended the law and the rules?
5.Which military forces is stronger?
6.Which individual soldier are forged well?
7.Which of rewards and punishments is clear?
By these seven items are compared it will be judged whether to win or to be defeated before it fights .
