The ancient palace Forbidden City was used as the place where emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties handled their court business and live. During Ming and Qing Dynasty, about 24 emperors, 14 of the Ming and 10 of the Qing ruled the country from Forbidden City.
List as one of the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1987, Forbidden City is divided into two parts, the outer court, where the ceremonies are held, and the inner palace, the home of the emperor and his family. Explore the palace you could discover plenty of history and traditional Chinese architecture in numerous buildings and alleys in this huge complex.
A must sight in Beijing but very crowded and a bit repetitive in style as you walk through the grounds. We actually preferred the view we got from the park behind it (see our separate review). Queues not bad to get in, visited around midday but we were straight in.
