ここでのデポジットは瓶入り飲料の購入時に上乗せされる預り金で、飲み終わっ
た後店に返すとデポジットが返還される容器を再利用するための仕組みだ。
The deposit here is a system that allows containers to be reused. It is
refunded when the bottle is returned to the store.
デポジットは預金、保証金、鉱床、沈殿物など多くの意味があるけど、「何らか

In reality, I think many French people live far from a simple life, but
a life of not owning more than necessary and cherishing old things
enriches our soul and accumulates invisible deposits.
死後も残る価値あるdepositは、心の中にしかないことを肝に銘じながら、今日
という２度とない日を大切に生きようと思うよ。
I will try to cherish each and every irreplaceable day, keeping in mind
that the only deposits leaving behind after death are in our soul.

高校生の時、近所に住んでいた仏教の信仰を持つＨ夫人から聞いた話を覚えてい
る。
I remember a story I heard when I was in high school from a neighbor,
Mrs. H., who was a Buddhist.
ある乞食が、銀座で物乞いをしていたのだが、毎日１万円も与えてくれる人がい
た。しかし、ある日を境に１万円が５千円になった。その乞食は金額が減ったこ
とに不満を言った。
A beggar was begging in Ginza(shopping district in Tokyo), and someone
gave him 10,000 yen every day. However, one day the amount dropped from
10,000 yen to 5,000 yen. The beggar complained about the reduction in
the amount.
私たちは毎日多くのものを与えられていながら、感謝するどころか、減らされる
と文句を言う。私たちは皆「銀座の乞食」だ。
We are given so much every day, yet instead of being grateful, we
complain when we are given less. We are all "beggars in Ginza."
地球上の生物は、時々逆境に逢いながらも、大自然の恵みを受け続けてきた。そ
れは大自然が何十億年もかけて積み上げてきたdepositだ。
Although living things on Earth have sometimes faced adversity, they
have continued to receive the blessings of Mother Nature. These are
deposits that Mother Nature has built up over billions of years.
それにも関わらず、人類は科学技術という「暗証番号」を手に入れ、必要以上に
depositを引き出し、浪費してしまう。
Despite this, humanity has obtained the "secret code" of science and
technology, and has withdrawn and squandered more deposits than
necessary.
価値あるdepositの99％以上を、排気ガス、排水、埋め立てなどのゴミに変えて
しまい、再利用されるのは１％以下だ。
More than 99% of valuable deposits end up as waste in exhaust fumes,
wastewater, and landfills, with less than 1% being reused.
経済合理性やより便利な生活を否定するのは現実的ではないけど、人々の不安や
欲望に巧妙に働きかけ、より多くの商品やサービスの消費を煽る広告代理店やマ
スコミなどの影響を自覚する必要があると思うよ。
It's not realistic to deny economic rationality or more convenient
lifestyle, but I think we need to be aware of the influence of
advertising agencies and the mass media, who cleverly appeal to people's
anxieties and desires, encouraging them to consume more goods and
services.
