SUMMARY

VIGNETTE
Janet Pulaski: I've often wondered if that could have helped my grandmother, who developed signs of Alzheimer's in her late 60s.
Ide Kyohei: I've posed the question; "Do you think money can buy happiness"? Philosophers, economists, and social scientists have been grappling with this for decades, and it tends to lead to thought-provoking conversations. Some people seem to believe that there's nothing money can't buy.
Janet Pulaski: Yes, it's always a controversial topic. For most people in the United States, the answer seems to be yes. There's a survey that found 6 out of 10 Americans think money can buy happiness. Higher incomes were associated with higher levels of life satisfaction.
Lidia Grace: On the other side, some people argue that money isn't everything. They say it's just one of many determinants of happiness.
Janet Pulaski: I would argue that wealth isn't the only key to happiness, but it can provide a means to the things we value in life. It's undeniably linked with our lives, identities, and well-being. Having enough money in the bank can certainly keep our stress low and improve overall happiness.
Ide Kyohei: Globally, happiness isn't necessarily tied to wealth. In some countries, non-material elements tend to have a greater impact on overall well-being. Besides, wealth is relative. I mean, "How much money do we really need in our bank account to be genuinely happy"?
