The All India Stainless Steel Industries Association, which represents more than 10,000 end user stainless steel Kitchen ware manufacturing and exporting units, employing about three lakh workers across the country has urged the Ministry of Steel and Ministry of Commerce not to start any investigations or initiate anti dumping proceedings at behest of a single domestic manufacturer namely Jindal Stainless Steel Limited.Mr Paresh Mehta chairman Export Imports Sub committee of AISSIA said that "The domestic producer JSL using its political clout has been approaching various trade bodies including FICCI to pressurise Ministry of Commerce to extend anti dumping provisions on stainless steel flat products of less than 600 mm width and more than 1250 mm width. At present stainless steel cookware and kitchen manufacturers consume nearly 70% of the the total stainless steel sheets consumed in the country. The total production of JSL is not enough to suffice the needs of the end user sector."
Mr Mehta said that "Most of the 10,000 end user stainless steel utensil and Cutlery manufacturing and exporting units mostly concentrated in Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Haryana and Gujarat and having direct export of more than INR 2000 crore are facing closure as they have been adversary hit by the recession and the earlier Anti dumping duty on imports of stainless steel Kitchen Hack! He said that "The ADAD,the competent authority had earlier rejected efforts by JSL to get Anti dumping duty imposed on sheets upto width of 1550 mm as the company had failed to prove any domestic production of sheets of a width higher than 1200 mm. Similarly JSL had moved another application for anti dumping duty for sheets of less than 600 mm, which was also out rightly rejected. Once again they are into same game. Stainless steel cookware and cutlery industry uses high grade stainless steel including wide width 1250 mm and higher coils, magnetic type stainless steel sheets for induction cooking equipment, Specialized grade of AISI 430 and AISI 304 for manufacture of utensils and cutlery ,which are not manufactured in the country. The industry imports these grades of stainless steel to meet the customers demand world over."
