Watchhouse is the project of musicians Andrew Marlin and Emily Frantz, a North Carolina folk duo whose patient songs touch on various Americana traditions while reflecting the realities of their own lives. Formerly known as Mandolin Orange, the duo's slow ascension in the contemporary folk world culminated in 2019's acclaimed Tides of a Teardrop, a chart-topping success that marked their last outing under their old name. In 2021, they rebranded as Watchhouse with their self-titled sixth LP.

This Side of Jordan
Based in Chapel Hill, Marlin and Frantz began performing under the name Mandolin Orange in 2009, drawing from a well of bluegrass, gospel, folk, country, and pop. In the vein of artists like Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, Civil Wars, and Nickel Creek, they combined close harmony singing with nimble instrumentalism, usually in the form of guitar, mandolin, and fiddle. A pair of self-released albums in 2010 and 2011 earned them a spot on Yep Roc's roster for their third album, 2013's This Side of Jordan. During the latter half of the decade, Mandolin Orange's profile increased with constant touring, major festival appearances, and well-received albums like Such Jubilee (2015) and Blindfaller (2016), the latter of which was recorded with a six-piece band and reached three Billboard charts. Marking a decade of work, their fifth album, 2019's Tides of a Teardrop, was a significant critical success that topped the Heatseeker chart, reached number two on the folk chart, and even cracked the Billboard 200. Exhausted from the rigorous promotional cycle and years of hard touring, Marlin and Frantz hit pause at the end of that year to focus on their growing family.
