Time for another installment of England’s Food! Yet another culinary adventure will begin in this blog, I think everyone is already well aware of fish and chips so I’m going to avoid making a blog about something everyone already knows about, in case anyone wondered why I haven’t written about fish and chips. For this entry, I’m going to talk about a food that’s topped with something loved by all (mostly), potatoes! This food is called: Shepard’s pie.
Shepard’s pie doesn’t quite fit the usual definition of a pie, it is not meat nor fruit nor anything else like that stuffed into a pastry, it is in fact more lasagna-like than anything else (in terms of appearance). It consists of two layers, the bottom layer being minced or diced lamb – cooked with onions and other vegetables in a rich gravy. Then it’s topped off with a thick layer of mash potato, and then baked. It is served typically in most pubs and restaurants, so if you’re ever in the U.K, I think it’ll be easy to find a place to try it. As well, the meat doesn’t have to be lamb but it can also be beef. Some may also switch out the plain mashed potato for mashed sweet potato, or even mashed potato with a cheesy topping!
I think you can’t really go wrong with potatoes, let alone mashed potato, so this is a sure-fire dish that most will think is pretty tasty. The times that I’ve eaten it were quite good, it’s a lot better than mince pies and trifles, that’s for sure!

今回は、みんな大好きなポテトをトッピングした食べ物についてお話しようと思います！
その名も シェパード・パイです。
シェパードパイは通常のパイの定義には当てはまらないです。
肉や果物などを生地に詰めたものではなく、むしろラザニアのようなものですね（見た目はそう見えますが^^）。
2層構造になっており、下層は羊のひき肉または角切り肉で、玉ねぎなどの野菜と一緒に濃厚なグレービーソースで煮込みます。その上に厚いマッシュポテトをのせて焼き上げます。ほとんどのパブやレストランで提供されているので、イギリスに行くと簡単にお店を見つけることができますよ！
また、肉はラム肉でなくても、ビーフでもOKです。マッシュポテトをサツマイモに変えたり、マッシュポテトにチーズをトッピングしたりする人もいます！
マッシュポテトだけでなく、ジャガイモを使った料理は失敗がないと思うので、多くの人が美味しいと思うこと間違いなしです。私も食べたことがありますが、ミンスパイやトライフルよりずっとおいしいです！（笑）
