Reserve Bank of Australia
(RBA) meeting,
where they decided to walk back the decision to taper
due to the rise in delta cases.
In a statement accompanying the decision at Tuesday’s board meeting, Governor Philip Lowe said Australia’s economic
recovery had been “interrupted” by the Delta outbreak.
“GDP is expected to decline materially in the September quarter, and
the unemployment rate will
move higher over coming
months”,
Dr Lowe said,
but “This setback to the
economic expansion is expected to be only temporary”.
The (RBA) also added
that there would be no rate
change until 2024 and
surprised some by cutting
its bond-buying by A$1 billion ($742.60 million) a week to A$4 billion,
though it also extended some of the programmes to at least mid-February...
