Typhoons are common in Japan from late summer to early fall.
Unlike hurricanes, typhoons are not named after people. Instead, they generally refer to animals
, flowers
, astrological signs
, and a few personal names.
, flowers, astrological signs, and a few personal names.In Japan and Vietnam, typhoons are simply numbered according to the sequence of their occurrence in the calendar year. So since this is the 18th typhoon, it's called "Typhoon No. 18".
That is why today's typhoon 
has two names:"No. 18" and it's Asian name, "Melor" （ジャズミン :マレーシア
）.
）.In other parts of the world, 「typhoons」 are also called:
Hurricanes
Cyclones
Wily-wilys
Tropical Storms
Although there are some differences between them,
they all sound VERY SCARY!
For example, the major distinction
between typhoons and hurricanes, which affect Central and North America, is in
their place of origin
I grew up in Canada and they don't have any of these things! 
Just hearing the word "cyclone", reminds me of a disaster movie.
