In my childhood, these flowers called Canna used to bloom here and there but these days, we seldom see them in Osaka.
カンナの花は私が子どもの頃は町の至るところに咲いていたのですが、なぜかこの頃は見かけません。
It was Happy Father’s Day yesterday.
We had a memorial service inviting a monk as my father passed away in July, 1995.
It reminded me of good days with my father.
In my childhood, on Sundays, we would often take a walk along a path in the area where a broad rice paddy spread. I think my father used to spend busy time as an excellent businessman, it was a relaxing moment for him and it was a happy time for me with my father.
Thank you, father.
改めて父に感謝します。
昨日は平成7年6月27日が命日の父の法要をお
坊さんに来て頂き行いました。またちょうど父の日でもあったので父との楽しかった思い出が甦りました。子どもの頃は日曜日などに父とよく散歩にでかけました。その頃は家から15分ほど歩くと田んぼや畑の広がるところに行けたので春の畦道を父について散歩しました。ヒバリの声が聞こえていたのを覚えています。そういうときは父は着物に丹前姿で胸の縫い目に爪楊枝を差していた。優秀なビジネスマンだった父にとっては貴重なリラックスタイムだったと思います。そして私にとっては父と一緒に歩けるうれしいときだった。
何十年経っても父は父、子は子です。

Long time ago, when I had a chance to talk with a flower arrangement teacher, I asked her, “Is it a kind of destruction of nature? “
In fact it was a rude question.
I believe flower arrangement is an art and the word ‘art’ means something created by human’s skills. So flower arrangement is a skill to create some beautiful scenes with flowers and branches of trees in the rooms or in some corners of buildings such as stations or some other public places.
By doing so, more people can enjoy viewing the beautiful scenes which those busy people miss a chance to see at roadside on the way to work or come home.
日本の生花の先生と話す機会があったとき、「自然の草木や花を切ったり、つんだりするのは自然破壊のように思いますがこの点についてはどうお考えですか」と大変失礼な質問をしてしまった。
芸術が英語のartであるならば芸術とは本来人間の技を使って美を表現するもの。英語のartも人工物を意味する言葉です。
例えば「関西空港は人工島です」はKansai airport is an artificial island.となります。
私のような忙しく毎日を過ごしている人間には道端に咲いている花や緑を愛でる余裕もなく見落としていることが多い。花や葉をアレンジして自然の美しさを再現する技が生花即ち華道だと思います。家の部屋だけでなく駅のような公共施設の一角に自然の美しさを再現して頂けると私のような人間の目にも留まり多くの人の心に潤いと安らぎを与えてくれるのです。
私も我流でチャレンジしてみました。
