「経済の進歩と調和」
This is a title of my classmate’s thesis for university graduation.
When I heard of the title, I joked, “Isn’t it a copy of the theme of the World Expo 70 ?”
It was because the World Expo’s theme was “Progress and Harmony for Mankind” and we graduated in the same year.
これは私のクラスメイトの卒業論文のタイトルです。私はこのタイトルを聞いたとき、「これって万博のテーマのパクリやろ」と冗談を言った。
というのも万博のテーマが「人類の進歩と調和」で我々が卒業したのは1970年だったからです。
When I met him last year, I said to him the same joke. He responded, “I still believe the progress of economy is important but more important to achieve the progress not only for the huge industries but also for the small businesses and each person. I wanted to express this with the word ‘Harmony’.”
去年、彼に会ったとき私は彼に同じジョークを言った。彼は答えた「経済の進歩は大事だが大企業だけでなく中小企業や個人のための進歩はもっと大事だと今でも信じている。これを主張したくて調和という言葉を使った。」
I think his opinion is great. He said this more than 55 years ago. I believe the phrase is getting more important for today and the future.
