I made a phone call to one of my college classmates the day before yesterday. But the answering message repeated, “This phone is not used now.” So I called his home telephone. His wife answered and I asked, “Did something happen to your husband?” She just said, “Yes!” I asked, “What happened.” She responded, “ He passed away with heart attack on 27th,January.
In fact, it was a bolt out of the blue 晴天の霹靂.
It was shocking.
I have another good classmate. Three of us belonged to the same seminar of economics, We had been spending nice campus life. Since then we’ve enjoyed eating out, climbing mountains and traveling.
I still can’t tell this shocking news to another classmate. I’m afraid it might be shocking to him who is suffering from stroke.
一昨日、私は学生時代の友人に電話しました。
その電話は「この電話は現在使われていません」と繰り返した。私は彼の家に電話をしました。奥さんが出たので「何かあった？」と言うと彼女はただ「そうなんです」と答えるのみ。私は「どうしたんですか？」と言うと、この1月27日に亡くなったと返ってきた。1月6日に電話してもう1人の親友の見舞いに行こうと話したのに！心臓発作だった。 正に晴天の霹靂！
学生時代は同じゼミで卒業してからも山や小豆島や鞆の浦, 姫路や龍野に旅行したり70年万博、マレーシアやシンガポールへの初めての海外旅行もこの3人でした。まさに青春時代を共有した仲間です。
