I’ve come across old words in the book

Now I’m reading a Japanese novel which is a story of the days of 100 to 150 years ago. In the book, I’ve come across some words in those days.

This photo is a metal tool for flower arrangement my mother used.

I’ve found that it is called ‘Usubata’ 薄端 used for ‘Misho-style’未生流 flower arrangement that my mother learned.
If I hadn’t read the book, I would not know what it is called forever.

Now I feel like arranging flowers in Usubata.

私は今、「細雪」を読んでいるところですが新しい発見があって感激しています。

母が使っていた古い金属製の花器があるのですがこの本の中では薄端と呼ばれていました。

この本を読まなかったら何という花器なのかさえ分からなかったはずです。物語だけでなく当時の言葉や物、時代背景などに係る発見があり私にとっては父母の時代に触れられて興味深いです。
