Horowitz TV Interview 1977
「ホロヴィッツ テレビインタビュー
１９７７年」より（当時74歳）
Horowitz;
When I’m on the stage and one person, when I’m out of the stage I’m another person.
When I’m on the stage I feel I’m a king I’m a king (on the stage).
Nobody has to interfere with him because I have something to do that have to bring the best which is in me, sometimes I do better, sometimes that’s good like any human being.
Interviewer;
“They say that Horowitz’s fingers can do anything on the keyboard impossible for others to do. Is this?”
Horowitz;
It is not true that’s opposite when I hear the others, I think you do something which I can not do.
Interviewer;
Are you still learning. you’re still?
Horowitz;
All the time, all the time.
Interviewer;
And you still want to prove to the people out there.
Horowitz;
I put to myself that I can do it.
If I cannot do it, I won’t be on the stage.
Interviewer;
Is there a jealousy among top performers?
Horowitz;
yes, unfortunately it is.
I was always happy to hear something above me.
It always give me inspiration and always give me some incentive to do something myself.
If somebody gets more money I have best luck please, I don't care.
Interviewer;
If somebody gets more money you tell me one other solo performer in classical music who gets 80% of the gross which is Vladimir Horowitz gets."
Horowitz;
But I didn't do it my whole life after 50 years then I got this.
Interviewer;
You get three times as much as any other classical performer today I am told.
And you smile when I tell you that because you know it is the truth and you are proud.
Horowitz;
I’m not proud. but it is so.
ホロヴィッツ；
私がステージ上に居る時は一人の人間、そして私がステージ上に居ない時はもう一人の人間。
私がステージに居る時は、気持ちはキング（王様）です。そう、王様！
誰も私に口出しすることはできない。
なぜなら、私の中にある最高のものを提供しているから。そしてそれは、たまに上手くいくこともあったり、それが人間らしくてよいもの。
「ホロヴィッツの手は、他のピアニストが弾けない事もやってのける、というのは？」
ホロヴィッツ；
それは、真実ではない。むしろ反対で、私は他の音楽家の演奏を聴くが、彼らこそ私の出来ない事をしている。
「あなたは、まだピアノを勉強しているの？」
ホロヴィッツ；
ええ、ずっとずっとです。
「あなたは、まだもっとできる事を聴衆に証明したいのですか？」
ホロヴィッツ；
自分が出来る事をして、自分の（追い詰める）ためです。
それができなくなったら、ステージには立たないでしょう。
「トップレベルの音楽家たちに嫉妬することはありますか？」
ホロヴィッツ；
残念ながらあります。
「あなたでも、他の人に嫉妬するのですか？」
ホロヴィッツ；
私は、いつも自分より優れている人の演奏を聴き、嬉しく思う。
そしていつも、インスピレーションと刺激を私に与えてくれる。
誰かが大金を稼ぐのなら、私は心から祝福し、私は気にしません。
「もし誰かが大金を稼ぐのなら・・、ホロヴィッツがクラシック音楽全体の８０％を稼いでいるのに、他に誰がいるのですか？」
ホロヴィッツ；
私は一生できなかったのですが、50年経ってそれができた。
「あなたは現在、他の音楽家の3倍も稼いでいると言われている。そして、私がそれを話すと、あなたはにっこりする。
なぜならそれは真実で、それを誇りに思っているからですね。」
ホロヴィッツ；
私は、誇りには思っていませんが、真実です。
愉快でユーモアのある人は、演奏もユニークにとんでいる。
