（Walking around Rome）

亜希子先生：
この課では、可能性を表す動詞 potere（～できる）の活用と使い方を学んでいきます。
バスに乗ったユリとブルーノ。バスに乗ったら、まずはチケットに日付スタンプを押さなければいけませんでしたが、さらにもう一つバスを使う際にしなければいけない重要なことを話していますよ。
マッテオ先生：
E allora ascoltiamo il dialogo.
（So let's listen to the dialogue.）

In autobus（By bus）「バスで」
B: Bruno Y: Yuri
B: Sull' autobus dobbiamo timbrare il biglietto.
Y: Come si fa?
B: Devi inserire il biglietto nella macchinetta.
Y: OK. Dove dobbiamo scendere?
B: Fra due fermate. Andiamo verso l'uscita.
Permesso? Possiamo passare?

＜英訳＞
B: On the bus, we have to stamp the ticket.
Y: How do you do that?
B: You have to insert the ticket into the machine.
Y: OK. Where do we have to get off?
B: At the second stop. Let's go to the exit.

★potere+動詞の原形「～することができる」
マッテオ先生：
Ebbene sì, anche potere ha una coniugazione irregolare.
（Well yes, potere also has an irregular conjugation. ）
▼potereの活用
io posso, tu puoi, lui[lei] può, noi possiamo, voi potete, loro possono
posso, puoi, può, possiamo, potete, possono
Con questo biglietto potete visitare tre musei.
（With this ticket you can visit three museums.）
※visitareの後には前置詞は不要（英語と同じですね）。
Sono pieno/a. Non posso finire questa bistecca.
（I'm full. I can't finish this steak.）
Possiamo prendere dieci giorni di vacanza.
（We can take ten days off.）
●Impariamo ２（Let's learn ２）
亜希子先生：
2つ目のポイントです。potereは「～することができる」と可能性を表すことができる動詞ですが、この動詞も文脈によって様々な意味になります。
▼例えば、今回のキーフレーズPossiamo passare?「通してもらえますか？」。このように自分たちを主語にして疑問文で使うと、「私たちは～することができますか」、つまり「～してもいいですか？」と許可を求める表現になります。例文を確認しましょう。
Posso fare una foto qui?
（Can I take a photo here?）
亜希子先生：
▼またpotereを相手を主語にして使う場合は、「あなたは～することができます」、つまり「～すればいいですよ」と相手に何かを勧める表現になります。
たとえば、「君は窓を閉めていいよ」
Puoi chiudere la finestra.
（You can close the window.）
直訳すると「君は窓を閉めることができる」ですが、この場合は「君は窓を閉めてもいいよ」と相手に勧める表現と考える方が妥当ですね。
▼さらにpotereを疑問文にして使うと、「あなたは～することができますか？」つまり「～してもらえますか」という依頼の表現にもなります。
例えば、「私にメニューを持ってきてもらえますか？」なら、
Mi può portare il menu?

以前、ローマのバス攻略法として、各停留所に書かれているバスの行き先をチェックしたり、アプリを使ってルート検索をしながらバスに乗る方法をご紹介しました。これでバスには乗れますが、実はもうひとつ重要なことがあります。
マッテオ先生：
Eh sì, bisogna capire dove dobbiamo scendere.
（Yes, we need to figure out where we need to get off.）
亜希子先生：
そう。それは降りる場所を確認すること。
マッテオ先生：
Infatti, non su tutti gli autobus ci sono gli annunci che ci indicano il nome delle fermate, quindi se andiamo per la prima volta in un posto possiamo trovarci in difficoltà.
（In fact, not all buses have announcements that tell us the names of the stops, so if we go somewhere for the first time we can find ourselves in difficulty.）
亜希子先生：
そうなんですよ。次のバス停の名前を車内アナウンスしてくれない時もあるので、特に初めて行くところは降りる場所を見極めるのが難しいんですよね。そんな時、何かいい方法ありませんか？
マッテオ先生：
In quei casi la cosa migliore da fare è chiedere agli altri passeggeri, "Che fermata è questa?
（In those cases, the best thing to do is to ask other passengers, "What stop is this?）
亜希子先生：
「この停留所ってどこですか」と他の乗客に訊けばいいんですね。
今回の会話にも出てきたように、「この場所に行くためにはどこで降りなければいけないですか？」と聞いてもいいですよね。
マッテオ先生：
Sì. E poi quando ci stiamo avvicinando alla fermata dove dobbiamo scendere, sarebbe meglio recarsi vicino all'uscita in modo da non rimanere bloccati sull'autobus.
（Yes. And then when we are approaching the stop where we have to get off, it would be better to go near the exit so that we don't get stuck on the bus.）
亜希子先生：
降りる場所が分かったら、少し前に出口の近くに移動しておいたほうがいいですね。確かに、うっかり降りられなかったなんてことになったら大変ですもんね。
マッテオ先生：
Eh sì. Infatti sull'autobus sentirete spesso dire dagli altri passeggeri, "Scende alla prossima?" e "Scende alla prossima?"
（Well yes. In fact, on the bus you will often hear other passengers say, "Are you getting off at the next one?" and “Are you getting off at the next one?”）
亜希子先生：
なるほど。出口の近くに居ると、"Scende alla prossima?"「次で降りますか？」と聞かれることもあるんですか。降りない場合は”No”と言って、相手を通してあげなければいけないということですね。これも知らないと、いきなり声をかけられて焦ってしまいそうなので、覚えておくといいですね。

今回は動詞potereの活用と使い方を学びました。前回学んだdovere、そして今回のpotereは、それぞれ文脈によって様々なニュアンスで使うことができるのでたくさん練習して慣れていきましょう。
マッテオ先生：

『多くの方は、指を指す状態で腕を伸ばしながらバスを停めます。これは自分が乗車しますという意思表示のサインのようなものです。バス停でスマートフォンを操作していてうつむいていたり、何もしない状態だとバスはそのまま通り過ぎることがあります。どんな形であれ、自分が乗車することをアピールしましょう。』
