★「高齢者」
Persona mayor / persona de cierta edad
（elderly person / person of a certain age）
スペインも日本同様、世界屈指の長寿大国
※スペインは2040年には平均寿命が85.8歳となり、日本を抜いて世界一の長寿国となる見込みもあるそうです！（ネット検索による）
スペイン語で「高齢者」はpersona mayor。persona viejasとは言わない。
viejoには「年寄り、老人」「よぼよぼで具合が悪そうな人」というイメージを呼び起こすから。
persona de cierta edadという言い方もできる。
cierta edadは「ある程度の年齢」という意味。

Lidia:
¿Qué tal tu nuevo vecino? ¿Es muy viejo?
（How's your new neighbor? Is he very old?）
（Com'è il vostro nuovo vicino? È molto vecchio?）
Nobu:
Bueno...es un hombre de cierta edad.
（Well... he's a man of a certain age.）
（Beh... è un uomo di una certa età.）
★婉曲語法 eufemismo（euphemism）
●cierta edad
年齢を聞かれた時に具体的に言わずに
Ya tengo cierta edad.
（I am of a certain age.）
※日本語だと「いい年です」「ある程度の年齢です」「それなりの年齢です」「ご想像におまかせします」にあたるのかな？
●una edad avanzada
avanzadaは「進んだ、時が経った」という意味の形容詞。
Felizmente, vivir hasta llegar a una edad avanzada es cada vez más frecuente.
（Fortunately, living to a ripe old age is becoming more and more common.）
●la tercera edad
la tercera edad 「第三世代」という表現は高齢者の集団を表すための改まった言い方になる。
※英語圏でthe third ageを「高齢者」の意味で使うことは可能みたいですが、senior citizenほど広くは使われていないようです。
Si tienes más de 65 años, ya puedes pedir el descuento de transporte público para la tercera edad.
（If you are over 65 years old, you can now apply for the senior citizen public transportation discount.）
★縮小辞diminutivo
単語の直接的なニュアンスを和らげる方法として、縮小辞がある。
名詞や形容詞の語尾を-ito, -citoなどに変えると、「小さい」「少ない」といったニュアンスが加わる。
●viejo → viejecito
Ayer hablé con el viejecito que pasea por el parque cada mañana.
（Yesterday I talked to the old man who walks in the park every morning.）
昨日、私は毎朝公演を散歩しているおじいちゃんと話した。
●gordo（fat）「太っている」 → gordito（chubby）
Mario está un poco gordito.
（Mario is a bit chubby.）
マリオはちょっと太め（ぽっちゃり）です。
塚原先生：
Lidia, ¿Cuál es tu consejo de hoy?
（Lidia, what is your advice today?）
リディア先生：
Un diminutivo puede mostrar el afecto y cariño hacia una persona. Por eso es una buena opción cuando creemos que una palabra puede molestar a nuestro interlocutor.
（A diminutive can show affection and care for a person. That is why it is a good option when we believe that a word may annoy our interlocutor.）
Aunque no siempre va a ser posible usarlos, llamar a alguien viejecito o viejito con una gran sonrisa y una voz cariñosa es una buena idea.
（Although it may not always be possible to use them, calling someone "viejecito" or "viejito" with a big smile and a loving voice is a good idea.）
