The netsuke "Ichinotani" project, began at the Rokusho-dou.

A continuation from the last time.

細工に突入。

まずは「生地取り」から。

The carving work begins.

The first step is a "materialing".

これが今回の母材。

Here's a donor this time.

鹿角と水牛角。

鹿角は髄が非常に少ない良材。

Deer antler and buffalo horn.

The antler piece is an pretty good material which has only just a little marrow.

母材から、この意匠に必要な

ボリュウムを切り出す。

Cut out the needed volume of the material for the design.

今回、依頼者さんは大きなサイズを御所望。

全体を幾つかの部品に分け、

組み立てる手法でこれを実現したい。

The client requests large size this time,

so I'd take an idea of assembling several parts to build the whole shape.

仮組みしてみる。

Let us assemble the parts as test.

良い感じ。

スケッチ通りのプロポーション。

Looks OK.

Its proportion is exactly like design sketches.

「生地取り」完了。

次は「粗彫り」。

The "materialing" is completed.

The next stage is a "rough carving".
