アメリカ合衆国では、5月10日が「母の日」にあたります。母が何を望んでいるのか、私には手に取るように分かります。それは、他の誰にも叶えることのできない願いです。また、母が何を案じているのかも、私は正確に把握しています。私は今、その母の不安を和らげるための取り組みを進めているところです。私は本当に恵まれています。母はいつだって私の幸福と安らぎを願ってくれていましたが、決して「私を通して生きよう」としたり、私の人生を過度に管理しようとしたりすることはなかったからです。母が願っているのは、私の両親それぞれの血筋に連なる多くの人々がそうしてきたように、私が「ある決断」を下すことだというのも分かっています。さて、どうなることでしょうか。皆さんがフィクション作品の中で一番好きな「お母さん」は誰ですか？ 母親が描かれたシーンの中で、一番のお気に入りは何ですか？

先週は、私が書いた書籍レビュー『The Gardins of Edin』（著者：Rosey Lee）の公開記念日でした。そして近いうちに、同じくRosey Leeによる『A Gardin Wedding』のレビュー公開記念日もやってきます。ぜひお楽しみいただき、ご感想をお聞かせください。

 


6月30日が締め切りの「脚本執筆チャレンジ」についてですが、選ばれた読者の方々に共有するための初稿が、まもなく完成しそうです。ストーリーの詳細は伏せておきますが、この執筆の旅を始めた当初から私の頭の中にずっとあった問い、それは「ホラーとは一体何なのか？」というものです。ホラーとは、不死身の怪物が腹を切り裂くような残虐描写のことでしょうか？ それとも、光と影のコントラストが際立つ映像美のことでしょうか？ あるいは、多くの人々が思わず逃げ出したくなるような問い――「私は何者なのか？」「あなたにとって、私はどのような存在なのか？」――こそが、ホラーの本質なのでしょうか？
私がホラー作品の執筆チャレンジに向けて書く作品の多くには、読者に対して何らかの「問い」を投げかけるような物語を選ぶ傾向があります。読者には、壮大な不可能なことではなく、不快な可能性について考えてもらいたいのです。

ニュースレターについて…
ニュースレターの第4版では閲覧数が継続的に増加しましたが、エンゲージメントについては確信が持てませんでした。現代のインターネットは静寂な場所です。カレンダーは公開されているので、誰でもフォローまたは購読して最新情報を入手できます。ですから、注目すべき作品をいくつか絞って紹介することにしました。

何かご意見があれば、ぜひお聞かせください。オンラインでは、閲覧するだけで、クリックはするものの、ほとんど反応しないという行動が一般的であることは承知しています。私は特に問題視していませんが、もし以前のフォーマットで何か懐かしい点があれば、ぜひ教えてください。

 

 


Mother's Day is May 10th in the United States of America. I know exactly what my mother wants that is beyond anyone's ability. I also know exactly what worries my mother. I am working on easing her worries. I am lucky that my mom has always wanted happiness for me, comfort for me, while not living through me or trying to overmanage my life. I know she wishes I would make the deal many in my combined parental bloodline have. We will see what happens. Who is your favorite mother in fiction? What is your favorite depiction of a mother? 

In honor of Mother's Day, I have an activity with an example by me plus a free illustrated story.

Last Week was the anniversary of my book review the gardins of edin and in the coming days the anniversary of my review of a gardin wedding both by Rosey Lee. Enjoy and tell me what you think. 


The Screenplay challenge that is due June 30th, I am near getting the first draft to share with select readers. While I will not divulge the story, the question in my head from the beginning of this journey is what horror is. Is horror the immortal gut slashing creature? Is horror the chiaroscuro visuals? Or are horror questions that most run from: who am I, how am I to you?  
With most of my writing that I present in writing challenges for horror, I tend to have stories that ask a question to the reader. I want a reader to think about an uncomfortable possibility, not a grandiose impossibility.

Notes on the Newsletter... 
The views continually went up for the 4th format of the newsletter, but the engagement I was uncertain of. The modern internet is a noiseless place. I figure, the calendars are available publicly, and anyone can follow or subscribe to stay in touch. So, just focus on a few works to highlight.  
If you have any thoughts, please share them. I know that lurking is the most common activity online. See, maybe click, but rarely interact with. I don't have a problem with it, but if you miss something of the older formats, do tell.
