今日の東京は雨、寒い日が続きますね。

It was rainy today in Tokyo, and the cold weather continues.

先週の話ですが、木曜日、おは朝を終えて東京に戻ってきのがお昼過ぎだったんですが、雪が結構降っていてびっくり。

This is about last week, but on Thursday, I returned to Tokyo past noon after finishing the "OhaAsa" show, and I was startled to see that it was snowing quite heavily.

傘を持っていなかったのでびしょ濡れになってしまいましたが、どんどん積もっていく雪を見てウキウキしました

I didn't have an umbrella so I got soaked, but I felt excited as I watched the snow gradually pile up :)

こういう寒い日には、ムルドワインをよく作ります。

On cold days like the one last Thursday, I often make mulled wine.

大学院生の時、ボストンの隣町ケンブリッジに住んでいたんですが、冬はものすごく寒くて大雪の日が多く、このムルドワインを作って体を温めることが習慣になりました。

When I was a grad student, I lived in the city of Cambridge, right next to Boston. Winters in Cambridge are freezing cold, and I often experienced heavy snow days. It became a habit for me to make this mulled wine to keep myself warm and toasty.

レシピは特にないんですが、安い赤ワイン、コアントロー（オレンジリキュール）、砂糖 or はちみつ、オレンジスライス、スパイス（ナツメグ、シナモン、スターアニス、クローブなど）を小さい鍋に入れて沸騰直前まで火にかけます。

I don't have a recipe really...I just mix the following ingredients in a small pot and heat until just before it boils: cheap red wine, Cointreau, sugar or honey, orange slices, and spices (whatever I have on hand, e.g. cinnamon, nutmeg, star anise, cloves).

先週の木曜日に作りましたが、雪を眺めながらムルドワイン…最高に贅沢な気持ちになりました。

I made this last Thursday, and it was such a luxurious feeling, watching the snow fall while sipping some mulled wine.

今日も寒いので…作ろうかな…

It's cold today too, so maybe I'll make it again...
