Hi all, happy hump day!
The other day, I went to a restaurant called Appia Alta in Nishiazabu with my mom who is visiting from the U.S.
Diners are shown the freshest ingredients that the restaurant was able to get its hands on that day. Then, diners can request order-made dishes using the ingredients they selected. Such a fun concept!

This means that there is no menu, and you don't know what the prices are...resulting in a tinge of anxiety when you ask for the check.
Amuse-bouche. Chinese cabbage potage, chestnut quiche, and in the middle, a piece of spinach jelly.
Marinated vegetables.
Beef carpaccio, figs and prosciutto.
Grilled jumbo shrimp.

For my entree, a grilled lamb chop - this was DIVINE and melted in my mouth.
Plus, the mustard in the middle had seeds that popped in my mouth in such an irresistible way...apparently, this mustard is made in Tasmania, so when I go to Australia at the end of the year, I'm going to seek it out and buy it!
The main restaurant "Appia" is apparently located in Hiroo. Although I want to go there too, it seems like it is not a place that I can casually visit on a whim...maybe I'll go for my birthday next year?
Once in a while, going to these kinds of restaurants is enjoyable and stimulating. But at the end of the day, I do prefer going to lively local izakayas and drinking highballs there.
Have a wonderful Wednesday!
