彼氏がオーストラリア人で、2週間ほど東京を離れ、オーストラリアに帰っていたんですが、
My Australian BF has been away from Tokyo and back in his home country for about 2 weeks.
（9日にメルボルン市内で起きたテロ事件の近くに実家があるので、あの日は心配しました）
(I was super worried since his family's home is near the terror attack that occurred in Melbourne on the 9th)
今朝無事に日本に帰国しました。
He safely arrived back in Japan this morning.
彼が日本を出る前に、「お土産にカンガルーの何かを買ってきて！」というリクエストをしたのですが
Before he left Japan, I asked him to please bring back for me "something to do with kangaroos."
ここ2週間、そのお土産を楽しみにしていて、
These past 2 weeks, I was eagerly looking forward to what he was going to buy for me,
可愛い置物とかカンガルーのキーホルダーかなと思いきや、
pondering whether it might be a cute kangaroo figurine or a keychain.
今朝、これをもらいました。
Well, this morning, this is what I got.
カ…カンガルー肉のジャーキー
Hmm...Kangaroo jerky...
確かに「カンガルーの何か」…ですね。そうなんですが、リアクション取りにくかったです
It is, after all, "something to do with kangaroos". It was hard to decide how to react to this! haha
カンガルーなんて人生に1、2回、動物園でしか見たことない私と、野生カンガルーが増えすぎて問題になっているオーストラリアで育った彼の間にあるカルチャーギャップを感じた瞬間でした。
It was a moment when I felt a distinct culture gap between us, since I have only ever seen a kangaroo once or twice in my life, and always at a zoo, whereas he grew up in a country where the rapidly increasing population of wild kangaroos is becoming a major problem.
カンガルー肉、食べたことのある方いますか？
