中間選挙。民主党が下院を奪い返しましたね。
Mid-term elections. It appears the Democrats took back the House.
両サイド「我々の勝利」と大きな声で宣言しています。もううんざり…。政治ってこんなに疲れるものでしたっけ？
Both sides are loudly declaring that they were victorious. So asinine. Has politics always been so tiring?
個人的に、一番興味深いと思った結果はテキサス州で勝利したリナ・ヒダルゴさんでした。
Personally, I found Lina Hidalgo's surprise win in Texas to be the most interesting.
長い間共和党が盤石な強さを誇ってきたテキサス州のハリス群（ヒューストン）の郡判事選挙で、ヒダルゴさん（民主党）が勝利したのです。
（テキサスでは「群判事」は実際に司法上の任務は行わず、郡政委員会のトップという役割です）。
In the county judge race in Harris County (Houston), Texas, where the GOP has always had a very strong hold, Hidalgo, the Democrat, won the seat. (In Texas, the title of "county judge" is actually a misnomer; the county judge is not actually a judge, but is the top dog in the County Commissioners' Court, or essentially, the leader of the country government. Texas, you're such a weird state).
しかも彼女は27歳、政治経験ゼロ。14歳の時にコロンビアからアメリカに来た移民です。
Plus, Hidalgo is 27 years old, with no political experience. And to top this all, she is an immigrant who came to the U.S. from Colombia when she was 14.
そんな彼女が、テキサスという真っ赤な（共和党支持）州の重要な選挙で接戦でしたが勝利したことは、かなり大きいと思います。
The fact that she was able to win in such a deeply red state (though the race was very, very close) is a big deal.
テキサス州の上院選を戦ったベト・オルーク（民主党）はテッド・クルーズ（共和党）に負けてしまいましたが、かなりの接戦であり、テキサスでも民主党の風が吹き始めたようです。
Beto O'Rourke lost the Senate race to Ted Cruz, but this was also a surprisingly close race. Seems like the Dems have a new wind blowing in Texas.
そして全然関係ないですが、今日、初めてブリーチ＆グラデーションカラーを入れてみました。
Oh, and today, I bleached my hair and had gradation coloring done for the first time in my life.

サロンではかなり変わったように見えたけど、帰って鏡みるとそうでもないという…（#イメチェンあるある）。
It looked so dramatically different at the salon, but when I came back home and checked in the mirror, the change didn't seem so drastic.
