アメリカのメディアは今、第一回討論会の分析で大盛り上がりです。
The American media is in a post-debate frenzy right now, analyzing the first round of presidential election debates.
各候補者の発言を吟味し、間違ったことや誤ったデータをあげてないか分析したり（このプロセスをファクト・チェッキングといいます）。
Each candidate's statements are being closely examined and put under the scalpel, to see whether either side made inaccurate claims or got their data wrong (this is called fact-checking).
中でも話題になっているのが各候補者のボディランゲージ。
In particular, the candidates' body language is being scrutinized.
内容よりも、印象やボディランゲージが問われるといわれる討論会。
The debates are said to be more about impression and body language than the content itself.
この象徴が1960年のニクソン・JFKディベート。

白黒の時代だったので、黒スーツを着ていたJFKははっきりと映ったが、逆にニクソンのグレー色スーツは後ろの壁と区別がつかないように映ってしまい、ぼんやりとした印象を与えてしまいました。
Because it was black and white, JFK's black suit stood out sharply, whereas Nixon's light grey suit seemed to blend in with the background, giving a fading impression.
しかもニクソンはひげが濃いことで有名。ひげを隠すために安いメイクを使ったら、スタジオの照明の暑さで異常なくらい汗をかいてしまい、メイクもとれてしまい奇妙な印象に。何度もハンカチを使う姿が大統領らしくないと言われました。
Plus, Nixon was famous for having a fast-growing stubble, so when he used Lazy Shave, he began prespiring profusely under the hot studio lights and his complexion appeared eery. He used his handkerchief numerous times, making him look unpresidential.
そしてケネディーがぴし！っと真っすぐ立っていたのに比べ、ニクソンはそわそわと、片足に重心をかけたり、国民に向けて話すときにカメラ目線で話さなかったり。
And while JFK stood straight, Nixon wavered on his feet, leaning against one side at times. He also did not look at the camera when addressing the public.
面白いのが結果です。ラジオで討論会を聞いていた人は、ニクソンが勝ったという人が多かったんですが、テレビで観ていた人は圧倒的にJFKの勝利だと。
What was interesting was the results. Among those who listened to the debate on the radio, many believed that Nixon was the winner, but those who watched on TV were overwhelmingly in support of JFK as the winner.
結果的にニクソンが有利だとされていた選挙で、JFKが僅差で勝ちました。
As a result, JFK won the close race, despite the fact that Nixon was said to have the advantage.
ではヒラリーｘトランプの討論会はどうだったのでしょう？
So, how was Hillary and Trump's debate then?
NYTの記者が、1時間半の討論会を全部ミュートで観てみて、各候補者のボディランゲージや印象を分析したところ、「ミュートにしていてもヒラリーが勝ったと思った」と書いています。
A NYT reporter who watched the entire debate on mute analyzed each candidate's body language and concluded that even on mute, Hillary was the clear winner.
