「夜来たる」重箱の隅 ③：『アンナ・カレーニナ』の書き出し
ロシアの文豪トルストイの代表作のひとつ、『アンナ・カレーニナ』は、その印象的な書き出しでよく知られている。たとえば、光文社古典新訳文庫版では、望月哲男が以下のように訳している。
幸せな家族はどれもみな同じようにみえるが、不幸な家族にはそれぞれの不幸の形がある。

まずは、the opening lines とか the opening sentence 。分量が長くなれば、sentence は paragraph や passage に置き換わっていくのだろう。単に the beginning といえる場合もありそうだ。The first sentence of Tolstoy's novel, Anna Karenina is: “Happy families ... ” みたいに書くのは私ぐらいか。（^^；
では、「～で始まる」のような動詞的表現は？

この SurveyMonkey は日本のサイトのようだが、書き出しから小説のタイトルを当てさせるテンプレート（Name That Novel）はちょっと面白い。"Call me Ishmael" で始まるのは、もちろん、『白鯨』（Moby-Dick）である。
「～で始まる」のいい方に、open with... が使えるのなら、begin や start なんかはどうなんだろうか？ ちなみに、以下の引用文中の赤い太字は私が勝手に強調したものだ。
