CHECK IT OUT!^^

On October 24th 2010, PJO went to Asakusa and Ueno with 14 people from overseas and other universities! We are delighted a lot of guests participated in this tour:D Thank you very much!

There are so many museums in Ueno. We separated into two groups: one going to National Museum of Nature and Science and the other going to Pachinko musuem(Now this is closed).

And then we went to Hanazono Shrine, Shimizu Temple and Shinobazu-Lake inside the Ueno-Onshi Park.

Things that seemed particularly interesting to overseas students were the rules to worship God at a shrine and a written fortune.

If you didn't follow the rules, God wouldn't listen to your wish. First, you need to wash your hands and mouth with a Hishaku and then throw your money gently into a box. Then, you bow twice, clap twice, make a wish, and you bow once at the end. Let's remember this order:)

At a Shitamachi Museum, we could see an old TV, rice cooker, radio and many kinds of toys. We could imagine vividly what life was like for middleclass people through the Edo Period and Showa Period.

We were so absorbed in playing simple toys such as tops and cup and ball that we must've looked like small kids:DD

We took a metro and went to Asakusa where we could see Tokyo Sky Tree from a distance. Then we passed under the famous Kaminari Gate.

Asakusa is a well-known popular tourist site because you can feel the old Edo atmosphere and there are a number of souvenir stores.

We passed through the streets with food in our hands. Asakusa was a fascinating place.

We ate dinner at Monjya-Kobayashi. Monjya is like a pancake only it's not sweet and no as hard as Okonomiyaki. We made Monjya by ourselves using the iron plate before us. It was delicious:P

The weather was not very good, but we had a fabulous time!!!

I hope the guests did, too. We hope to see you again!!!

On December 4th&5th, we went to Hakone/Odawara in Kanagawa!

We spent only one night, two days and it was a short time, but

we could relax and enjoy.

On the first day, we went to Odawara Castle, Hakone-Yumoto station. We had dinner at a restaurant inside the Tensei-en Hotel and ate Soba. (its a type of noodle) Hakone is not only famous for its beautiful mountain and lake scenery but

also for delicious food such as Soba, Kamaboko*, Black Egg and steamed bun that are all made of high quality ingredients. These are also suitable for souvenirs!

After dinner, we were surprised by the falls inside the Tensei-en and took some pictures there. The falls were small, but it was interesting because they were just beside the Hotel and the night and the dim artificial light made them look mysterious.

And we finally arrived at our ryokan (hotel) "Sakurai-So"The owner of the ryokan was very nice. We could make ourselves at home because she welcomed us warmly.

That night after we took a hot bath and changed into our Yukata*we sat around a Kotatsu*and chatted for a long time, eating oranges.

Us PJO members and Arnaud (hes French) talked about the differences in our cultures.

The second day, we went to Owakudani by ropeway. Owakudani is called "Great boiling valley" in English and as this suggests, it's a popular tourist site for the volcanic activity and hotsprings. Black egg is also famous here. It is a hard-boiled egg that is boiled in the hotsprings which is why it's black outside. Consuming the egg is said to increase longevity.

The next destination was Hakone-Sekisyo near the Lake Ashi which was an important checkpoint during the Edo Period. The museum inside the Sekisyo displayed many documents and items that indicate Hakone was once an essential political and strategic place in japan.

There are so many enjoyable places in Hakone:D

Though it is relatively close to Tokyo, you can feel the beauties of nature!!

*Kamaboko - boiled fish paste

*Yukata- a cotton kimono that you wear as a loungewear/sleepwear

*Kotatsu - a table covered with a blanket which has a heater underneath. Orages are a must for kotatsu :)

I went snowboarding to Jyouetsu in Nigata last week with my old friends.
We took a midnight bus, so we played with strong drowsiness on the first day.
Snowboarding tour is very popular in the winter season in Japan, so we can enjoy with very low cost. The temperature was hot like Spring.
Weather was very nice all day so my face got sunburnt, and some of my friend said to me
「Did you go to Okinawa or something?」:).
We rested in onsen and had delicious dinner in a pretty hotel. Those were wonderful four days.
If you are interested in winter sports, please tell us. We'll go with you and connect you to the hotel.

Hello.
We university students are in spring vacation now!
We have almost 2 months to rest in February and March.
I visited Switzerland and Russia in February.
And I found the difference of popular traveling destination all over the world.
I met Russian friend in Russia and talked about popular traveling destination for each other.
She said it's popular and easy for Russian to go to Egypt or Turkey.
And I said it's popular and easy for Japanese to go to Hawaii, Korea, or Australia.
But both of them is not familiar for each other.
It was a great shock to me.
I have never thought about visiting Egypt and Turkey.
Then, I became interested in the difference of popular traveling destination.

This time, I would like to introduce popular traveling destination for Japanese!

NO1
Hawaii

Hawaii is the most famous resort for Japanese who want to go to south.
Traveling beginners also can go there easily
because there are so many Japanese tourists and staffs.
They can rest in beaches, go shopping, do marine sports and so on....

NO2
Guam

Guam is also the most famous for Japanese who want to go to south.
Moreover it takes only 3 hours to go to Guam from Japan!
There are many Japanese staffs as well.
We can enjoy in south in low cost and less time!!

NO3
Italy

For Japanese it takes half of the day to go to Europe and a little bit difficult to go.
However regardless of that, Italy has been a popular place.
There are beautiful scenery, delicious food, fashionable goods.....everything!!
That' why Italy fascinates Japanese people's heart forever.
