On October 9th ,we went to Akihabara and Kanda.

"Electric Town" Akihabara has a lot of stores selling electronic appliances, computers, anime and otaku goods. We visited some of them.

One store sells goods of Ghibli films , such as My Neighbor Totoro.

Another store sells thousands of video games.

We visited a maid cafe ,where the staff dress as maids and treat customers as masters or mistresses.

This type of cafes has quickly become famous in Akihabara since its debut.

It usually isn’t permitted to take pictures inside cafes unless you pay extra fee.

Some “maids” were promoting their cafes on the street.

On every Sundays, Akihabara's Chuodori High Street is closed to vehicles, making it to pedestrians-only street.

Then, we paid a visit to Kanda Shrine.

The shrine was founded in 730, but the current structure was rebuilt several times.

This is a popular place for businessmen and entrepreneurs to pray for their wealth and prosperity.

It is commonly said that in America it is easy to enter college but difficult to stay in. On the other hand, in Japan it’s difficult to get into a top university but it’s not that difficult to graduate from it. In America, the number of failures is high as academic levels are relatively high. I think most of the university students in Japan easily graduate from univeristy. However, some point out that Japanese universities eliminate possible failures through entrance examinations, which works as a kind of screening.

So, do American universities have to have entrance examinations like Japan as screening?

Let's go to Akihabara this Sunday!

You can see many people wearing costumes of some anime characters, and a number of stores selling computers, anime goods and video games.

We are planning to visit some stores there and go to "Maid cafe",which welcomes and entertains you as a master.

So, join us and have fun together!

In Japan, university graduates have a lifetime advantage over those without a university degree. It has been believed that one’s university determines one’s jobs and carrers. That’s why many people try to enter prestigious universities.

For them, preparation for entrance examinations is very hard and painful task , because slots are few while applicants are plenty. Some people go to cram school (called juku) to fill the gap between what they learn in high school and what they are required to know to pass entrance examinations. It isn’t uncommon that students who fail the examination to the university of their choice will spend a year or more in intensive study and then try again.

Sometimes this whole situation is referred to as “Examination Hell.”

今日は満月でした!

Full moon from Tokyo.

In Japan, we often see a rabbit in the markings of the moon.

It looks like a rabbit pounding the ingredients for ricecake(or Mochi もち)
