４０歳になっても、若いぞ！

I saw the move "Che" on the Sundance Channel, twice! It was fantastic! Mercedes Sosa's singing at the end was just perfect! My friend Rodrigo Bellott did casting for Part 2. Honestly, Part 2 was my favorite. I recommend seeing "Motorcycle Diaries" and then "Che". These days i don't watch TV except for to check the weather. Now i am busy preparing for my gig on the 28th and writing, working, going to meetings and gigs in Manhattan. When it gets colder i will wear my new pajamas that i got in Houston, i love these! I will update more later! Cheers!

最近は知り合いのギグを観に行く事が多く、Gordon Beeferman の弦楽四重奏のプレミア、Chelsea Art Museum でのTaka Kigawa のリサイタル、などなど、最近は音楽に癒されます。今度はメイン州にあるBates Collegeのクラスで講義して、友人の三浦寛也さんとリハしたり、ゆっくりとブラブラします。メイン州は５年ぶりになります。帰って来たら本格的に２８日のギグの準備に入ります。久しぶりのライブ、しかしソロの演奏は半年ぶりになります。ゲストは寛也さん、最後の曲を一緒に弾いてくれます。
この間は４０歳になりました。色々考えます。まあ、独ぼっちと言っても、来年に向けて仕事に専念して、春までは週七日はたらいても良い感じです。そんなに仕事はあるのかな～。８月に出たオムニバス盤も売れ、春にはようやっと Ernesto Diaz-Infante とのカルテットのCDが出ます。ほいで秋には「裸のブランチ」も出ます、なので、来年はせめて一回くらいツアーしないと、、ヨーロッパ／日本を考えてます。また近々報告します。では、皆さんにとって良い一週間でありますように。

Howdy From Big Sky Texas!

It has been a much needed time in Houston this past week. I got to see family and friends. Every time i come here since moving to NYC, i take the same "walking course". I park my car near the Menil Collection, go to HCP (Houston Center for Photography), Twombly Gallery, Menil, Rothko Chapel, and i sit on the benches and write or think, close my eyes and remember many things. I go to the trees with swooping branches, and i walk by my old apts. and across Richmond to Castle Court Street and then back to the car. This time, the exhibit at the Menil is fantastic. I highly recommend it! It is Joaquin Torres-Garcia's "Constructing Abstraction with Wood".
I have meetings in NYC, so must go back tomorrow, but i don't want to. I will be back though, sooner than usual next time. I really needed Houston. The weather has been good to this trip. More later! I hope everyone is doing well! Peace and Love!

嫌な雨だ〜

NYCは４°。嫌な雨がずっと昨日から降っている。外に居る野良猫の子供が鳴いている。この寒さでは可哀想だ、どうしよう～、古い毛布をあげようかな～ミルクもあげようかな～。
昨日と今日で二つの翻訳の仕事を終えて、今日はマンハッタンで買い物したり現像屋さんへ行ったりしようかな～。起き抜けに久しぶりに体重を計ってみたら、４月の健康診断の時より５キロを痩せました。これだ。元旦までには絶対にその５キロを戻してやるゾ～っ！最近は煙草も吸い過ぎなので、量を減らしメンソールも来週にやめるのだ。来年には煙草をやめているつもりで居ます。
昨日８３歳になった父親は闘病中だけど、一昨日から元気になって、なんとまた会社へ毎朝、運転して通っているそうです。山あり谷ありの闘病生活は大変だと思うんだけど、父は鉄人だね、やっぱり凄いぜ。この人生で一番尊敬している人です。今度はヒューストンでの一週間の滞在を楽しみにしているさ。いとこ／甥っ子／姪っ子が多いので、会う人がたくさん居て、ヒューストンには年に２回かえっている。
音楽関係の仕事もヒューストンには毎年あって、３月には新作のCDのファイナルミックスを終えて、今回はマスタリーングです。でも来年にしようかな～。ジャケットの写真撮影は今回しないことにしたけれど、、、それが来年に撮影することになった。写真家は２００５年に出たCDと同じ、加奈ちゃんの作品になるんです。どうせアルバムが出るのは早くて来年の秋ですから、撮影は来年になっているかんじ、かな？
今は右手の人差し指の湿疹でギターが弾けないんです。水曜日からちゃんと薬を付けているので良くなって来たが。ヒューストンから帰って来たらまた夜と週末に弾きまくる、もう３ヶ月近く弾いてない。

寛也さんが風邪を引いてしまったようです。僕は引きそうだったけれど、もう大丈夫です。加奈ちゃんが置いてくれた薬が効いたかも？
さて、今週末に予定がないので、洗濯と掃除でもしようかな～、でも悪い天気が続く見込みなので、部屋の片付けだけにしようかな～。

More Goldsworthy....

この作品はず～っと続く。往復して回ってた。Maya Lin の作品も素晴らしかったし、他の彫刻も良かったです！

Andy Goldsworthy の作品 「Stone Wall」

この石で造られた壁は、Andy Goldsworthy というスコットランド人の作品で、寛也さんが去年の誕生日に彼のドキュメンタリーフィルムのDVDをプレゼントしてくれた。感動させてくれるアーチストです。

Chilly Weather...

Yesterday i had lunch at a nice restaurant in the East Village called Soba-Koh. I have been there before with my friend. I met up with Taka and Michiyo Kigawa. They are both from Nagano, Japan and teach music. Taka is a brilliant pianist and i was fortunate to have seen him perform at Le Poisson Rouge in August. The recital was a sell-out and he was amazing!

It was really good to see them again. When my friend Hiroya comes into town next week we might meet again at the same restaurant.
Today i am doing laundry and cleaning again, like everyday this week, and will finish up a small translation job before going to meet my friend Hiro for tea. Enough for now...until another day...i hope all is well with everyone. The weather is getting cold, but it's supposed to get up to 70 degrees on Saturday.

Connor Plays Some Ball!

My trip to Philadelphia was a great experience! I got to stay in the same room as my sister and nephew.
Of course i ate a Philly Cheese Steak! Once is enough....Here's a photo of my nephew Connor eating one before his scrimmage at Penn! I got a little too much sun that day!

My Trip To Philly!

I got back from Philadelphia to visit with my sister and my nephew, who was at the University of Pennsylvania to try out for the baseball team. He plays the "hot corner", 3rd base. He did well. It was fun to watch him play!
My sister is doing great too! I am really lucky to have this family around me. It was good to get a good talk in with her and hear all about my nephew Stephen and niece Catherine too! I miss them all and I haven't seen Stephen, Catherine, and my brother-in-law Erik in a long time, too long!
Philly was Phun! We ate at some really good restaurants and the weather was good.
The bus was $26 round trip! That's a good deal!

My Mando's a 100 Years Old! マンド君は１００歳になったぜ！おめでとう

マイ・マンドリン、マンド君がなんと１００歳になりました！お誕生日は９月９日に勝手にしましたが、１９０９年生まれです。彼とであったのは１９９７年でした。テキサス・ギネス・ラバーズというバンドに入るために条件はリード・ギターだけじゃなくて、マンドリンかバンジョも弾けたら入れると言う。そうすると、マンドリンなら弾けるぜと、嘘付いて、家に引き隠って練習したら、なんとかそのバンドの曲は全部弾けた（簡単な曲ばっかりだったからさ～）。まあ、マンド君とは仲がいいです。下はさっき撮った写真です。ちょっと老けて来たけれど、彼は元気です！
My Mandolin, Mando-Kun has turned 100 years old! He was born in 1909 and i decided to make his Birthday September 9th. So, it has passed, but we celebrated tonight anyway! He is getting old, but still has the juice in him! Happy Birthday Mando-Kun! Arf! Arf!
