More than 60% of companies in Japan adopted remote work for April and May, which was completely unbelievable in Japan before COVID-19.
And now, government released the emergency declaration so it's time to consider whether we should continue the remote work or not.
Today, news article in NIKKEI published that more than 60% felt LESS efficiency after the remote. (n=2,207)
If you believe this number without doubt, 60% must be too much.
Japan should stop the remote work RIGHT NOW.
Here are the questions.
1. WHEN did this survey happen?
⇒If it were start of April then they may not be accustomed to do remote work.
or they weren't good scheduler for it.
2. HOW MANY people had ever done remote work before?
⇒What if some of them had experienced remote work before.
To do the research, condition must be arranged in same level.
If you take survey by panelists of "first time doing the remote work" and
"Not the first time doing the remote work," in different, then the results may change.
From my experience, the efficiency got lower in first few weeks because I didn't know how to concentrate at home.
There were family to talk with, snacks to eat, no one to watch me (no way boss and colleagues would stake me) and no time to switch-on for the work because the work environment doesn't change to the normal life.
By continuing remote work for a while, I now got my pace of how to schedule by remote and the efficiency is getting way better.
Especially I have the time to sleep more than what I used to have.
At the same time, remote work let them clearly know the work that are NOT NEEDED.
Printing out papers every time, participating meeting without having any voices, going for work-travel just to meet and talk face-to-face to someone etc...
Giving/providing "VALUE" is the firstest way to see one's output at the remote work but it's the hardest assignment to complete at the same time.
(That's why I don't feel worth working for HR these days compare to last year. I thought that was because it's my first year to work on my own but fact was because of remote.)
It's really difficult to see CLEAR output at HR department.
Especially no budget for duties in promotion and evaluation.
So yes, I agree to those who got less motives but losing efficiency is just excuse.
You cannot easily lose efficiency because of the ENVIRONMENT.
You are now asked to THINK and show CLEAR OUTPUT than before.
Let's all try and contribute our company while doing the remote work!!
