デヴィッド・ベッカム
サッカー選手のデヴィッド・ベッカムは
2005年からUNICEFの親善大使を務めています。
今週、活動の一環としてフィリピンを訪問した彼は
現地で子供たちと交流し、感銘を受けたようです。
フィリピンの首都マニラにUNICEFが支援するシェルターがあります。
シェルターとは、さまざまな事情で
住まいを失った人々が身を寄せる一時的な宿舎。
デヴィッドが訪れたシェルターには、路上生活経験のある
元ストリート・チルドレンたちが大勢暮らしています。
デヴィッドは
自身のフェイスブック上でこの時の様子を詳細に語りました。
「子供たちもスタッフも大歓迎してくれて
私が感動してしまいました。ここの皆さんの頑張りは素晴らしい」など
感じたことを率直に言葉にしています。
妻のヴィクトリア・ベッカムとの間に子供が4人いるデヴィッドは
“親”の視点からもこのシェルターの取り組みを細かくチェックし
スタッフが子供たちを大切に温かく育んでいる様子に安心したようです。
