As technology is developing, society, especially industries and the business world, are focusing on the sciences. However, we cannot belittle the humanities from the view point of international relations, fundamental rules in society and the synergistic effects of the humanities and industries.
In a globalized society, the importance of language and knowledge of human histories is increasing more than before to get a mutual understanding between nations. There has been many kinds of conflicts due to lack of mutual understanding. The humanities therefore are indispensable to keep a good relations between nations.
Moreover, it is undisputed fact that the foundations of modern society and human activities are supported by the humanities like law and politics. Not only for the people who want to be a lawyer and politician, but also ordinary people, learning these subjects is very important to make our society better. If we disparage them, society would be in disorder.
Finally, a certain level of ethics is to be requested when new technologies like genetic engineering are adopted. Scientists have to cooperate with people like a moral philosopher. It is easy to imagine that society would be ruined when scientists act as they wish for the reason that it is reasonable. I believe ethics can be nourished through the humanities.
For these three reasons, a university degree in the humanities has not lost its relevance. People should re acknowledge the importance of it and try to make it popular more. (242語)
