Although it is true that some countries have succeeded in increasing their national income as globalization spreads all over the world, we should be aware that globalization is bringing another poverty due to jobs shifting abroad, the excessive competition and disparity of wealth.
Initially, globalization encourages unemployment especially in developed countries because multinational companies often shift their factories to developing countries in order to achieve lower costs. This creates poverty in developing countries. Generally speaking, the poverty in developed countries is tougher due to its high living expenses.
Moreover, the lower skilled people tend to lose their jobs through excessive competition. In the highly globalized world, every single worker will be forced to compete in the global labor market. Even the people regarded as highly skilled are not exempt as they are requested to have additional skills like English to win in the global labor markets.
Finally, it is quite obvious that the more globalization spreads, the more the capitalist becomes rich. Because the wealth can hardly be distributed. According to some statistics, more than eighty percent of total wealth in the world belongs to only one percent of the population. Hence we can say that globalization would encourage the disparity of wealth further.
For these reasons, I believe that globalization will promote poverty rather than helping eliminate it. It is high time people realize that globalization is only capitalist’s deception. (231語)
