Is space exploration worth the cost?

（アウトライン）

☆序論

・宇宙探査は人類にとって永年刺激的な分野である。一部の人がその高すぎるコストを指摘するが、技術革新や資源確保、新たな人類の住処の観点より宇宙探査は行う価値がある。

☆本論

・宇宙探査は新たな技術革新をもたらす可能性が高い。例えば衛星技術はスマートフォンのGOSや気象予報に応用されており、技術革新が大きなメリットをもたらした良い例である。

・地球の資源は限られており人類の増加に伴い、食料・水・エネルギー等の不足に直面しており、地球外にこれらを求めるのは自然の成り行きである。現在、無人探査機が小惑星からサンプルを持ち帰っており、新資源への大きな局面を迎えている。

・地球は永遠に継続するわけではないため、人類は将来に備える必要がある。いかなる生物もその種を残すために存在しているため、いくらコストがかかっても地球外に住処を求め続けるだろう。

☆結論

・これらの理由より、宇宙探査はコストに見合うものと強く信じている。我々人類を人類たらしめるのは、未知への飽くなき好奇心なのだから。

Space exploration has been an exciting area for human beings. Although I know some people claim it costs too much, I believe it is worth doing from the viewpoints of the contribution to technological innovation, securing new resources and space colonization.

First of all, space exploration is likely to lead to the development of new technologies. Satellite technology is a classic example. This technology is adopted everywhere in our life like a GPS system for smart phones and weather forecasting. This has clearly proved that space exploration can bring huge benefits through innovation.

Moreover, our planet earth has limited resources unfortunately. As the population is growing, the shortage of food, water and energy is materializing. It is a natural reaction to seek them in space. In fact, the unmanned spacecraft is coming back with some samples from a small planet, which is called Ryugu. This will be a big step toward new resources in space.

Finally, the earth itself might not be forever. Therefore human beings shall start to prepare for the future. As any creature has been designed to leave our own offspring, we will try to find a suitable planet for colonization at any cost.

 For these reasons, I strongly believe space exploration is worth the cost because I think what keeps us human is our insatiable curiosity for the unknown. (223語）
