「アジア のノーベル賞 」といわれるマグサイサイ賞 の授賞式が３１日、フィリピン の首都マニラで行われ、核廃絶 への取り組みが評価された広島市の秋葉忠利 市長（６７）に同賞が授与された。
秋葉 市長は「受賞者の一人に選ばれ、大変光栄 だ。広島と長崎の両市、存命の被爆者 、共に（核廃絶）運動に取り組むＮＧＯや市長を代表 して謝意を表明 する」と述べた。
同市長はまた、「最悪のシナリオ は（核兵器 による）人類の滅亡だ」とした上で「もし、国際社会 が核兵器禁止条約 に調印し、すべての核兵器廃絶に向けたプロセス が始まるなら、人類生存のために協調していくことができる」と訴えた。
